long repeated posts
« on: November 14, 2015, 07:22:16 PM »
I know it can be tedious on a handheld to edit posts from others, but there are a couple of ridiculous cases on here, and sometimes only a few words are added. Given there are those on here who use screen readers, it would seem only reasonable to try and cut the amount of this that goes on?

I find this annoying too, even when not on a hand held - there is a setting that when activated does this:

This will strip nested quotes from a post when citing the post in question via a quote link.

If members find the patchwork of nested quotes annoying (I do) it might be worth giving this a trial.

Where do I find it or if it isn't yet here when will I be able to find it?

Please.

You can't since it isn't a personal setting - it would apply Forum wide.

I've mentioned it to the other Mods - it is easy to turn on (or off again) so a trial isn't difficult to arrange and would be worthwhile if there is general support (as there seems to be so far from replies the NS's OP).

Even before I became a Mod, I used to throw such a thread into the system every now and again.  Any way that such nested quotes could be done away with would be great.

Thank you, NS, for bringing the subject up. I tried mentioning it ages ago. I use a desktop and have become used to doing a great deal of scrolling past stuff, but that means I miss stuff too. Like others in this thread, I take the time to listen to and delete all the quotes not relevant to what I want to say.

Some forums have a limit on the numbers of characters in each post, would that be helpful?

I doubt it. Some subjects/discussions require far longer replies that others.

Definitely worth trying. It would save a lot of virtual paper.
