I think successive governments have managed to make teaching one of the most stressful/overworked/undervalued professions there is - so no big surprise that they are having  retention/recruitment problems.

Govested are so institutionally disparaging of teachers that Wilshaw can't help himself.

The talent has gone abroad he said, unavoidingly, suggesting that the talentless remain.

Wanting a breed of Stepford teachers they have ended up with few teachers.

The moment that bloke Woodhead shifted responsibility for exam results from pupils to teachers the game was up for education.

In my view they are either giving verdicts to justify Govesteds existence or they haven't had any effect because every school should be excellent by now.

Its a bit daft to blame Govested, since the concept didn't even exist at the point in time that the education system began its downhill slide - the mid-to late-70s.
