No one should be pressurised into having kids if they don't want them. From being a child one of my sisters decided childbearing was not on her agenda, which is fine. Her husband didn't want any either.

We discussed this during the Brexit business, when that would be Tory leader Andrea Leadsom made cutting remarks about Theresa May's childlessness.

About an hour ago, I read a long article about Nicola Sturgeon which was published in yesterday's Sunday Times magazine.   It was very interesting indeed, she's a private person and has never discussed her miscarriage, not wanting to be defined as a tragic woman unable to carry a child.  Quite rightly she said that no-one ever speculates about the childlessness of male politicians.

It's nobody's business but that of the people concerned.

I will say that imo not enough status is afforded to childless people by society.

It was the Sturgeon article that triggered the coverage in the Times where having  published the article where she says that no one asks about men they then produced the table of only women politicians.

We used to see quite a lot of use of 'unmarried' as regards male politicians in then code for 'quite possibly gay'.


The other thing I was reminded of here is reading below the line in comments section is still about the most depressing thing you can do

I scrolled down to the bottom to see if there were comments to read and did not find a comment section - or did you mean something else?  Probably, I'm great at getting things arse about face.

It would be great if people would just accept others as they are (unless they're axe murderers or similar) and be less nosey.  I'm sure you do and I do, if I do wonder about anything personal I feel bad about it and try to divert my thoughts.  Children and youngsters are naturally inquisitive and tend to ask personal questions, adults should have outgrown that tendancy.

Everyone has something to offer whether married, single, parents, childless.  They will all experience periods of contentment and satisfaction, and times of worry and sadness.   

I really admire Nicola Sturgeon which I know is not what this is about but thought I'd say it anyway.  I had no idea whether or not she had kids until I read the article this morning.

Just a small point, Brownie, but Andrea Leadsom was contesting Theresa May for leadership of the Conservative party not the Labour party.

This made her comments reprehensible.
