Is our view of history dangerous?

I read this at the weekend, whilst in Berlin, and having just walked round and through many of the monuments referred to in this article. My brief take is that the situations are very different but I feel that there is a need to look deeply at the consequences of historic actions to understand what we should sek to do going forward.

I think he is absolutely correct and the Brexit vote is a verification of that.

People were actually prepared to accept the myths served out in 'sound bites' by the likes of that bastard Farage.

I think we are directed to the Great Man theory of history. The hero supported by his loyal yeomanry and all that bollocks.

I think the problem with the Brexit thing was the assumption by so mny that our 'glorious' past could be recaptured by exciting from the EU.

Too many people believe that the term 'Great Britain' is a socio-political term, when in reality its a geographical one.

That was the point I was trying to make (though I probably didn't express it so clearly). We have delusions of a 'glorious past' that unscrupulous politicians tell us we might reclaim 'if only' we  . . .
