Cheers, NS.
The Book, 'Life on the Edge' by Jim Al-Kalili and Johnjoe McFadden has a chapter on this(Ch. 8. Mind) which suggests that 'a possible site for quantum mechanical phenomena in the brain lies within ion channels in neuronal cell membranes.' The suggestion is, following the work of Bernroider and Summhammer 2012, that these ion channels effectively work as a kind of ion refrigerator helping to maintain a quantum state and keeping decoherence at bay.
By the way, shouldn't this really be in the Science area?
