New Driving Test
« on: June 27, 2017, 02:10:23 PM »
A new driving test comes into force in December.

I learned to drive a car when I was 12 and on the road since I passed my driving test at 17, in 1967. I hope I never have to resit one as might not pass it, especially the updated one. Whilst I have never had an accident, parking ticket, or speeding fine (the latter more luck than judgement), over the years I suspect bad habits have crept in. I have told my kids that when they judge me no longer to be safe on the road, I promise to give up driving. My late mother was still driving in her late 80s and was a nightmare behind the wheel! ::)

Changes seem sensible. Never understood why parallel parking wasn't part of test when I took it.

Though now, parallel parking will soon be entirely automated in all cars, and soon the question will be whether a test makes much sense at all.

I try to avoid parallel parking if I can.
