Does Pride London need liberating?
« on: July 07, 2017, 04:44:54 PM »
I can understand Tatchell's point but in one sense the success in changing views, and a generic social change makes this inevitable. I have seen similar articles about music festivals. I agree about the question of rights being on occasion lost but not sure that you can have that with a freewheeling nature.

At some point we have to hope that Pride becomes redundant.

Of course we should hope that Pride ends up redundant. In the meantime though I don't like the idea of it being used as a cash cow when other events aren't treated in the same way. There seems to be an assumption that the LGBTI+ community will just cough up.

Having yet another Orange walk appearing on my street tomorrow and closing it, I am all for charging, but absolutely it has to be fairly done.
