Watched 2 episodes so far and while visually it's great though obviously derivative of Blade Runner, the story seems to take a backseat. The premise of the book seems watered down to a few fleeting images and the story then feels like a Blade Runner rip off too

I've been watching this. I agree with your points about Blade Runner and the visuals but I'm finding it entertaining enough for TV science fiction. I can't comment on the book as I haven't read it.

Generally TV and film science fiction is rarely up to the standard of the best books. However, if anyone is interested, by far the best TV science fiction I've seen in a long time is The Expanse. I'd read all six(!) novels before seeing it (there is now a seventh - nine are planned) so I'm not sure how it would play to someone who hadn't.
