I wish this was an isolated incident.
The stories of tourists armed with hammers and chisels entering tombs or temples in Egypt are legion...and, unfortunately, true.
There's also a seated statue of Sekhmet in the stores of the British Museum....beautiful granite - but the solar disk on its' crown is missing - nicked by an Italian tourist in 1987, and thrown in the Thames for a laugh.
