Requiem
« on: February 20, 2018, 07:55:41 PM »
I started watching this in its broadcast slot but noticed that all the episodes were available on iPlayer - so binge watched the whole thing.

Each episode presented a deterioration in plot and quality. That's a Saturday afternoon I shall never get back ...

I've seen three episodes so far and am hooked though the plot is certainly thickening. I hope I'm not going to be disappointed at the end but will persevere.

When I posted the above I'd actually watched four episodes. Now I've seen it all I'm not quite sure what to make of Requiem. It was gripping, I wanted something different for the ending but hey ho. Very well cast & acted I thought, loved Matilda and Hal & was sorry that it appeared they wouldn't still be together at the end.  Most weird though.

I think Requiem started out by being quite rational but ended up awash with woo.

It became more and more implausible episode by episode. Characters became caricatures.

Seriously weird.  What I was hoping all along was that the 'spooky' bits were induced by being in an environment where inexplicable things had occurred, amongst people who were into that sort of thing. That does happen with suggestible people. Obviously at the end we were supposed to believe it was all real! I found that disappointing.

Also couldn't understand why a simple DNA test wasn't done earlier on & why the police were so hostile to Matilda/Cerys from the outset.  The pot farm was a bit of a red herring. I didn't quite grasp how or why Matilda had ended up with the lady who cut her own throat - her mum as far as she was concerned. It probably was explained & I am not going to watch it all again in order to 'get' it.

All in all I've seen better but certainly seen worse.

It certainly hasn't done rural Wales any favours!

'Fey' ?

We're thinking in stereotypes, generalising based on a TV drama. Hee hee, wish there were some Welsh people on here.

Well, one Wales-dwelling member has been banned permanently and another has ... err  ... flounced (apparently permanently).

I don't know about the banned one but the other one you mention lives in Wales but is not from Wales so she doesn't count (unless she involves herself in 'fey' Welsh stuff, who knows?).

Yes, the recently-flounced one does come from Donkey Island, but living in Wales must give her some insight into the behaviour of its natives. And as for "fey" Welsh stuff, have you seen the content od some of her conversations with Sriram?
