Did you know Lawrence Krauss's academic genealogy of doctoral advisors goes all the way back to Italian doctor Fallopius through Oppenheimer, Born and Gauss?

Before we work on Artificial Intelligence shouldn't we address the problem of natural stupidity.

As Michael Caine might say: 'Not a lot of people know that'.

Sam Harris doctoral advisor himself did his thesis on the links between the pudendal nerve which apparently controls the anal sphincter and Lordosis which is curvature of the spine rather than pathological monotheism.

That'd be Dr Fallopius of the tube in the lady-bits, I take it.

Absolutely, Real name was Dr Fallopio but if you were a star in the academic firmament of back in the day you were recognised by the latinization of your name
hence Fallopius. So Richard Dawkins would be Dawkinsius.

In one of his "Sacred Diaries", Adrian Plass mentions Paul's letter to the Fallopians.... Now, that's worth a rad......
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Presumably, Vlad, you find this surprising or something?
Does Magna Carta mean nothing to you? Did she die in vain?

But until comparatively recently, Academia has been a fairly compact milieu. In the 16th and 17th centuries there were only a few centres of advanced learning and few individuals who would be considered pre-eminent.

It is hardly surprising that there are academic lineages of the kind that you describe.

It's a bit like the apostolic succession.
