Full Cover Up ?!?!!?!
« on: May 14, 2018, 03:37:03 PM »
Been a long while since I've had a rant eh??? HA HA BUT...
There's been quite an increase in burkha clad women in my area of north east Lancs recently. One PRESUMES they're women, anyway ?
I HAVE read several versions of The Quran & The Hadiths by their 'prophet' Mohammed & not found anything as totalitarian as complete cover-up!!! Hair covering, most certainly.

Is this an 'invention' of frightened Muslim men who feel they can't control their servants-women or is there a simpler answer?
Is there some medical reason such as being on a period?

Nick

To answer your question I have no idea.

But I have to ask, has NE Lancs also seen an increase in the use of exclamation marks and question marks?!?!?!?!

I thought so.

I'm not sure what anyone on this board can add to your anecdotal tale of burkha clad women.

That already seems pretty simple.

I recall a tv programme recently in which it was stated that in classical Greece it was the custom for women to be completely covered (it may have been just in Athens). My guess is that this was possible quite a common practice in a number of cultures and that it is tribal rather religious in Islamic societies.

I'm not aware of any use of full face veils in Athens in classical period. Possibly in some of the Greek settlements bordering  Persia?

I have just been looking at   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_in_Classical_Athens

It certainly suggests that some women lived secluded from men.

Seclusion doesn't mean that they wore a full veil. It's a different question though in some ways related

So what are we saying here? Because women in ancient Athens were treated fairly abysmally, it’s OK for Muslims to do the same now?

That's not what I am saying. No one is suggesting that it's "OK" - where do you get that from?

I was merely attempting to provide an answer to Trippy's question in the opening post. That there was an established tradition of wrapping women up that went back at least as far as ancient Athens and that this found its way into Islamist practice.
