Fox on assaults on democracy
« on: May 01, 2018, 09:49:21 AM »
Which is more of an assault on British Democracy.
introducing a second referendum on Brexit, parliament adhering to the advisory nature of the referendum or hinting at the abolition of the House of Lords by some kind of popular response?

I find it quite amusing that all of a sudden the Tories seemed to have realized that the peers are unelected.

It suited them for decades when the HoL was their pet poodle, now that it has turned into a more troublesome terrier they want to put it down.

Before we work on Artificial Intelligence shouldn't we address the problem of natural stupidity.

Well as always with the tory party there are some who want that but then the tory party is now like the ice shelf. Once a cold expanse now breaking up but still incredibly cold.

I definitely think there are those in the tory party who consider the press as the second house who are there just to deliver voters in some kind of mutual monks circle.

But that isnt the aim of the long game which is probably to cut out the inconvenience of depending on a mandate (May's obsession with identity documentation and changing traditional means of registration?). On the way to the new order is brexit and the elimination of parliamentary power and possibly a constitutional crisis over the succession....leaping over Prince Charles succession in favour of the nations/the press's choice.

Like Thatcher, abolishing the GLC because it had the temerity to defy her.
I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

Back in the Thatcher era, it was often only the House of Lords that kept the government in check. The troublesome terrier thing is not new.

And I suspect that a lot of Tories in the Europhile wing of the party are pretty happy at the HoL decision,, a decision that, by the way, increases the power of the elected chamber with respect to Brexit.
