I was brought up on rock music, e.g.early Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, the Everly Brothers, Brenda Lee, Fats Domino, Connie Francis. Of course some of these artists had Christian influences, but it was the rock music that the teenagers of that time liked. It was our music, not the music of our parents. The more they disliked it, the more we took to it. Did it have a bad effect upon us? I doubt it. In my case, it led me on to be interested in American blues music, and jazz, especially New Orleans and Big Band jazz.
A lot of my musical tastes are expressed in what I think was a fantastic film 'The Blues Brothers' which did have a sort of Christian theme, but, for me, it was the music that made it.
