Quote
Plans to build a new road in Iceland ran into trouble recently when campaigners warned that it would disturb elves living in its path. Construction work had to be stopped while a solution was found.

This reminded me that not too many years ago a road in Ireland was diverted (can't remember the specifics) because of fairies.

Pain, or damage, don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back. - Al Swearengen, Deadwood.

It's clearly an Elf & Safety matter.

Yes, it shows that their National Elf Service is working well.

I understand that Gnomeopathy is quite popular in Iceland.

Gordon, elves are not gnomes. They aren’t even similar. It’s like discussing zebras and making a joke about snails.

Honestly.  ::)

I remember having quite a fw long talks with Magnus Magnusson (who I knew vey well) over a fish supper and a dram, on the subject of Icelandic culture.
Believe it - many Icelanders took this kind of thing VERY seriously, and probably still do.
I think Magnus' daughter, Sally, wrote a book to accompany her BBC Radio Scotland series on Iclend shortly after her dad died.
She dealt in some depth on thesubject.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

Shouldn't Sally Magnusson have been called Sally Magnusdottir?

Magnus wasnted both Anna and Sally to begiven Icelandic surnames....his wife put her foot down.
Magnus might have been daft sometimes.....but he wasn't stupid!
