The Tory have a vague ideology of opportunity, and individual liberty, but beyond that they are little more than a loose collection of people who want to be in power. That is what Ruth is for, so as to help to keep the Tories in power.

One of the many anomalies up here is the Scottish Tory Party. A substantial minority of working class Unionists will now vote Tory as a bulwark against SNP, even though they disaggree with just about all Tory policies....when they actually bother to read what those policies are. The other classic anomaly, of course, is Dividson herself. Her sexuality is no secret - she'ss made no effort to conceal it, and that is,of course, her affair and no-one else's. It's ironic, though, that the Orange Order, still a shameful scourge here, supports the Tories openly, and at the same time strongly allies itself with bigotted homphobic troglodytes in the DUP.
"for, as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself."

I should note that the writer of the article is a Tory voter.
