The tories cooked up Ofsted to take responsibility for the education of kids away from Government and parents and as a probable unforeseen from Kids as well. The result was an exodus from teaching and the health service crime.

The government is now proposing to repeat the trick with Knife crime.

So the government will now be able to make claims that knife crime is being tackled by the numbers of Doctors, Nurses and Teachers prosecuted.

A ridiculous idea and certainly one which, if introduced, will see more teachers leaving the profession.

As a former teacher, I see this as a half baked idea which simply tries to put the onus on teachers, the NHS etc. There are already reasonable checks and balances in place without the threat of litigation. I don't even think that those who thought this up have any idea how it would work. It begs the question also as to why parents or neighbours or anyone else involved with young people should not be under the same umbrella.

I can't see this as coming to fruition because it is basically unworkable.

Surely there is already a moral duty on teachers and healthcare staff to report cases of children at risk to the relevant authorities. If I were a teacher, i’d Find this proposal pretty insulting. The idea that they are sitting around letting their pupils get knifed is quite offensive.

In fact, the risk of prosecution might lead to a culture of ensuring plausible deniability. Teachers will be encouraged to keep children at arm’s length so as not to open them up to legal charges if the child gets involved in a knife crime.

Yep it is not an encouraging glimpse into the tory mind which wants power with somebody else shouldering responsibility coupled with a sick view of society where things only happen, in the section of the population you don't want to encourage by bribery, if there is threat and coercion. Each tory must carry round this hellish vision in there heads.

Because they are demonstrably tory judging by the unfeasibly high support the tories have. The contract is this We the conservatives will relieve you of the responsibility for you making a pig's ear of your lifes and put it onto scapegoats as long as you get back to your hutches, eat Murdochian fodder and turn out and keep us in power.

That is maybe your way of seeing things. For me, it's a case of politicians getting desperate to come up with new ideas, no matter how unworkable, as long as they are seen to be looking as if they are doing something. I make no separation between politicians of different parties. A pox on all their houses as far as I am concerned.
