Everything is written..!
« on: October 27, 2020, 02:36:55 PM »
Hi everyone,

Here is a short and nice video about Superdeterminism. 'Everything is written'....could be literally true.

Cheers.

Although the video concentrates on quantum entanglement, it's fairly uncontroversial that relativity suggests this, not least because the whole notion of a single moment in time becomes relative in special relativity and arbitrary in general relativity.

For example, using only special relativity and ignoring the motion of the earth, if two people walk past each other at a relative speed of about 4 mph, then what is happening simultaneously to that event, at the distance of the Andromeda galaxy, differs between the two observers by about five and a half days. What's in the future to one of them has already happened according to the other.

In the case of general relativity, if we take an extreme example like a black hole and define space and time in a way that makes sense at a large distance from it, they break down completely at the event horizon, when, relative to the distant observer, the notions of space and time swap over entirely (the distance to the centre becomes timelike and the time coordinate becomes spacelike).

"People like us who believe in physics know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." -- Albert Einstein.

You are talking about how information about an event gets passed on differently.....which is fine. The same event can be perceived with different time and space references depending on when and how it is communicated to a person.

But the idea of the future actually existing in parallel is quite different.  It is difficult to imagine how the entire future of each one of us and the entire world in general, already exists and is already decided. It is also a little different from predetermination based on natural laws.

No, I'm not. The geometric interpretation of special relativity came later and is due to Minkowski but general relativity is explicitly a geometric theory of space-time. Time and space are modelled as a continuous (pseudo-Riemannian) manifold. Time is just a direction through it. In fact it's not even a direction because it depends on the observer. Generally what one observer considers to be time will be different from another observer.

But the idea of the future actually existing in parallel is quite different.  It is difficult to imagine how the entire future of each one of us and the entire world in general, already exists and is already decided.

That's exactly what general relativity is telling us. My future is separated from what I am currently experiencing by a (timelike) interval (space-time 'distance'). The word 'now' is no more significant that the word 'here' - together they denote a point in space-time (event) and every other event in the whole of space-time is no more or less real.

It's not, really, it's no more difficult than accepting that things are happening in New York right now - that I can't seen them doesn't stop them being there, it's the separation in one of the dimensions of space-time that make it difficult to directly perceive it.

It's one view of spacetime that implicitly reinforces one understanding of a deterministic reality.
