Me too. Linked to memories of a couple of radical lesbians who loved this album, and who consequently made me fall in love with it.

I remember him being interviewed by Clive Anderson, who was trying to take the piss with his usual air of superiority - he asked along the lines of 'So do your kids call you Meat or Mr Loaf'? - and the reply was 'My kids call be Dad', which was delivered in a tone that made Clive look like the pompous prick he is.

Good on him.

Bat out of Hell was everywhere when I was a student. Hated it, thought it was overblown non-sense, but hey who am I to argue with 44 million record buying public!!

Just never could grasp the appeal, but you are right, he was an epic talk show guest. And he isn't the only musician whose music I can't stand but who is an ace on a chat show. Step forward also Charlotte Church and Michael Buble.

Yep. Bat out of Hell is practically the only song of his that doesn't set my teeth on edge, but it's still marginal.

Meatloaf's peak was being killed by Tim Curry with an ice axe.
