The true horror won't bew seen till next breeding season.
Gannets mate for life, so I suspect next year will show just how bare the rock is.
With any luck, the birds from the last two or three broods will be less affected, since they would have been too immature to return to the rock this year to breed.

Bird flu, fish swam, man walked...
I once tried using "chicken" as a password, but was told it must contain a capital so I tried "chickenkiev"
On another occasion, I tried "beefstew", but was told it wasn't stroganoff.

Well, it's very sad and all that, but since it's not our fault for once, should we not just let it run its course, this being just the nastier side of nature?

What makes you think it's not our fault?

Eh? How can flu spreading from bird to bird (the bird being the natural resevoir of the flu virus) be the fault of humans?

Because the virus became active in chicken farms - which are not natural - and wild birds caught it.
Their migratory routes brought them in contact with other species.

What makes you think it is? Theburden of proof is on you - Occam's razor.
[Edit] - just seen your reply above. OK, it is our fault, but it might have been helpful if you'd said that in the first place.

Bird flu is also a problem in the Channel Islands.
