It's now a daily thing that I'm realising I'm entering into the 'old' bracket. I thought Paxman only took over about a decade ago, it's almost like he's still sort of an imposter after Bamber Gascoigne, but nearly thirty years? How the hell did that happen?

Not a disparagement on him, just my confusion about my recollection of the sequence of events in my life!

To be replaced by Amol Rajan apparently.

I think I would have preferred Samira Ahmed, who was up for it afaik.

Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

I'm with Outrider on this, the distortion of time is most unsettling.

Plus, I'm not seeing Amol Rajan as a suitable replacement. Don't really know why but it doesn't feel like a good fit for me.

One effect of the time distortion is if you had asked me before I read the article how long UC was off the air I would have said about 15 years

My husband really enjoys UC, and is sorry Paxman is having to step down. Amol Rajan is one of the presenters on the BBC Radio 4 Today programme, he seems like a nice guy, but somehow I can't see him being a replacement for Paxman and his predecessor Bamber Gascoigne

I still like UC - unlike Mastermind, it remains a quality show, and hasn't dumbed down.
Regardless of who presents it, I hope the questions still remain challenging.
I like Only Connect as well, and, of course, Round Britain Quiz and Brain of Britain on Radio 4.

I find Only Connect to be rather contrived and Victoria Coren a little annoying. University Challenge just the retains the excellence it has demonstrated since Granada imported it from the USA 60 years ago. I wonder if I shall miss Jeremy Paxman in the way that I miss Bamber Gascoigne?

Of other tv quizzes, I don't like The Chase and Pointless is rather ... pointless (an ego-fest for it two presenters).

Re. time dilation (or do I mean contraction?) in old farts: I thought that BG had done it for much longer than Paxo, and that the gap between his version ending and Paxo's starting was well over a decade, but in fact BG's version lasted 25 years, while Paxo will have done 29 years when he hands over, and the gap between the two versions was only seven years.
