We've just signed off on the installation of a whole-house generator.  We're preparing for increasingly worse weather (hurricanes) and the power outages (in horrible heat) that follow.
I wonder now if the most intelligent being in this world is actually a virus.  Me

Hair cut and perm today! A couple of friends said it lookd nice long and suggested having a super cut in order to not have a perm. I thought about it, but the most important reason why I like the way it has been for years is that I know what I look like. IfI had a new style, I would spend the rest of my life not knowing and that would be a constant, slightly niggling background worry!

Thanks.  We've made other improvements: high-impact windows and doors, higher-standard roof and drainage system.  We've lived in this house over thirty years, and the flooding was getting bad.  The drainage system has helped a lot.

Our previous very old property (1610), was only yards from a small river, which came too close for comfort from time to time. It use to worry me a lot, if we had a lot of rain I would get up in the middle of the night and stand on the river bank to check how high up the bank it was, crazy or what? ::) I was relieved when we sold the place in 2012. Our present house is only about 30 years old with all mod cons for which I am very grateful, especially mains drainage. It was my job to rod out the drain to the septic tank at the other home when it got blocked, which it did frequently! :o

You have forgotten to tell flower girl that the place was haunted ... ::)

That was a minor inconvenience for which there was probably a natural explanation.

Our youngest daughter and her eldest lad visited us this afternoon, we haven't seen them in person since the end of February. They were pleased to see the very old people were still alive and kicking. ;D

Yesterday and today one of those scam phone calls about internet will be switched off or something. I did not respond of course, but when I turned on Outlook, and it came up with 'cannot access this page', funnily enough my first thought was about those phone calls. The reason was in fact simply - router needed turning off and on again, but the fact that I even let the idea enter my head is a little disconcerting.

I have had a number of those spam calls, but a while back. I ignored them realising they were spam, but it would be easy enough to get sucked in by them, I guess.

This morning I went out at 7:40 to do my 20 laps of the Close so half the time I was in the shade which made it much easier.

Reuben is now at my son and d-in-law's so I hope he is coping with the heat all right!

Well, I have just had a lovely day. My younger son collected me before 9:0 a.m. and I've got to know baby Reuben. A happy and contented child, full of energy - loves being able to practise being upright. My older son an partner arrived at lunch time; we all had a  barbecue in the garden, with lots of baby watching!,  until it was time for them to leave when rain and thunder started. my younger son drove me home - arrived back home half-an-hour ago. My granddaughter's partner is coming down tomorrow by train and they will drive back home to Sheffield on Saturday.

We have a replica of a medieval broadsword, which we wish to get rid of, it weighs a ton.  If they were actually that weight you would need to have been a weight lifter to wield it.  :o I will have to ask around to see if anyone would want the sword, we are giving it away.

Well, it's nearly 10:30 p.m. so past my bedtime, but about half-an-hour ago I arrived back from a 4.5 hour visit to A&E. during the past three or four days, I have had some chest pain actually strongish discomfort which made its presence felt; , not sharp, more dull and some tightness so today phoned GP, who, bearing in mind my history,  advised ringing 999. Details were taken, had a phone call back with more questions, but I had to have some blood  test which the local surgery couldn't do, so paramedics came along, did ECG, took another long set of answers to questions. Most of the time in A&E of course, I was just sitting on one of the beds, doing nothing. Blood pressure taken at regular intervals and two more ECGs plus an X-ray.  Seems to be some lack of sodium, but there was fibrillation last night - apparently I should have phoned 999 then, but it went away after a while - so it had to be an A&E visit.

There will be follow-up apppts with GP and maybe a Cardiologist. I'm feeling fine nowand having had nothing to eat or drink since I left here, have had a bowl of cereal and a hot drink!

And that's quite enough excitement for one day!!

If cycling the streets to deliver pizzas doesn’t appeal, how about donning some scuba gear for the gig of underwater pizza delivery for a Floridian hotel? Guests at Jules’ Undersea Lodge, which is 21 feet below the surface of the sea at Key Largo, get pizza for dinner as part of their overnight stay. Don’t worry about soggy crusts: the pizza comes sealed in a plastic box. Warning: you will need to be sub-aqua qualified to apply for the role.

I have just come across this, the mind boggles!

Yes, thank you; I put the cordless phone by my pillow Friday night and last night too, just in case! Haven't got much energy today, but I'll have to make some of that by mid-September because yesterday I heard that the tap class is to re-start then! I hope I'll still be able to use the other studio and run through the routines I know, particularly the Advanced 'quick Jazz' - which for me needs half-speed music! That is, I'll think it in my head at the speed that suits my feet, otherwise I will not touch anything, so the Dance Studio owner will not have to spend time wiping that area down as well.

By the sound of the letter I received today from the Leisure Centre, I don't think it will be possible to organise and manage my weekly swim, but I'll arrange a chat with the organiser to see if it will ever be possible, even if I have to wait until the New Year.

The 2021 calendar I ordered yesterday came by courier today in a large box in which you could have put at least a half a dozen of them! I get really irritated when things arrive in boxes, which are much larger than required. >:(
