For a few minutes this evening we had what is described as a, 'mackerel sky'. I wish I had taken a photo, when I looked the term up I discovered they are quite rare. I can't remember when I last saw one.
Like this? This was over my house on November 6th last year.

Just like the old weather forecasting rhyme 'Red sky at night- shepherd's delight, Red sky in the morning - shepherd's warning' there was 'Mackerel sky, mackerel sky, Never too wet and never too dry'.

Or, as we say in Hemel Hempstead, "Orange sky in the morning, Buncefield's on fire". https://flic.kr/p/2kfW7vk That was a couple of hours after the first explosion, as the sun rose and illuminated the pall of smoke.

I sent off our census form online first thing this morning, I had an e-mail to say it had been received. Have other posters sent off theirs?

Yes - ten days ago. I figured that there was was only one possible change to the information I submitted - and since I wouldn't be here it wasn't my problem.
I received a confirmation email. Several people I know also sent their returns early.

Our DS son (36) has made us very proud over the 35 years since we adopted him. He has a wonderful personality and a number of achievements, including several Blue Peter badges.

Rhea birds are running wild on a Hertfordshire housing estate. Maybe they are trying to find a poster on this forum who lives in that county. ;D ;D ;D

I tried it once. It was horrible. "What dire rhea!", I expostulated.

I don't believe that. It is impossible to eat roast rhea and expostulate at the same time.

My computer clock has not automatically changed to BST. The Tech chap is going to be here in a few weeks so it doesn't bother me particularly, but a bit annoying.

I've just asked Alexa and that is the right time.

My computer clock was showing GMT instead of  BST this morning but I somehow managed to fix it.

I have eight proper (i.e. mechanical) clocks to wind every Sunday, and today I had to adjust them as well. My digital radio-controlled clock, which I use to set the proper clocks by, did its thing during the night. My three bike computers are showing the correct time again, after being an hour fast all winter, because changing them is a bit of a faff, so I left them on BST all winter.

We only have four ordinary clocks which need adjusting, all the rest including our watches are radio controlled, thank goodness.

My (older) granddaughter phoned this morning and then sent me a video of Reuben laughing and giggling in the bath, using a plastic cup to pour water over his head! It came up full screen on the monitor so I was able to get a much better picture of him than I have before. Made my day!

My sister is going to see her new grandson for the first time this coming weekend. She is very excited at the prospect of seeing the little man who was born the other week. :)

She is lucky. My new grandson was born nine months ago but in the Channel Islands. (He is a crapaud not a donkey.)

Poor little soul being a crapaud (toad) instead of a donkey. I am proud of my donkey status. ;D I hope you get to see him before too long.

I was walking along the bank of the Avon today. The sunshine was glorious and there were many people around.

I saw two middle-aged women coming towards me talking earnestly. As they drew level I heard one say to the other:

The wife doesn't let him have it very often.

And then they moved out of earshot. My mind boggled. What could they be talking about?  The car?  Rhubarb crumble?   The tv remote control?
