I always give up booze for Lent. Mothering Sunday is a traditional day off from Lent, and I thought that it was today, so I bought a bottle of beer and two of cider to drink today, only to discover that Mothering Sunday is next Sunday. However, rather than have the bottles sitting on the larder shelf for a week, tempting me, I decided to have my day off a week early, so I have drunk them today, and also went to my local Wetherspoons pub for  lunch and a pint (Katsu grilled chicken curry and a pint of Black Dragon Welsh cider).
In other news, I've just watched a documentary about the demise and funeral of her late majesty, and confess that, republican though I am, I got quite emotional at times. especially at a shot of little Princess Charlotte, seven years old, bursting into tears during the funeral. Whatever you think of the institution, Her Maj. was a remarkable woman. It was, thank heavens, a lot more dignified than the ridiculous scenes at the funeral of Princess Diana, but of course it was very different: that was the sudden, shocking, violent death of a young woman; this was the peaceful and anticipated death of a very old lady.
I have a pet termite. His name is Clint. Clint eats wood.

For pi day

π in the sky

He'd think about her
constantly – well, 22/7 –
never completing.
He even stopped eating.

Then, one day – at 3.14 –
a chance meeting.
But, sadly,
not repeating.

“It occurred to Pooh and Piglet that they hadn't heard from Eeyore for several days, so they put on their hats and coats and trotted across the Hundred Acre Wood to Eeyore's house.
Inside the house was Eeyore.
"Hello Eeyore," said Pooh.
"Hello Pooh. Hello Piglet" said Eeyore, in a glum sounding voice.
"We just thought we'd check on you," said Piglet, "because we hadn't heard from you, and so we wanted to know if you were okay."
Eeyore was silent for a moment. "Am I okay?" he asked, eventually. "Well, I don't know, to be honest. Are any of us really okay? That's what I ask myself. All I can tell you, Pooh and Piglet, is that right now I feel really rather sad, and alone, and not much fun to be around at all.
Which is why I haven't bothered you. Because you wouldn't want to waste your time with someone who is sad, and alone, and not much fun to be around at all, would you now."
Pooh looked and Piglet, and Piglet looked at Pooh, and they both sat down, one on either side of Eeyore in his stick house.
Eeyore looked at them in surprise. "What are you doing?"
"We're sitting here with you," said Pooh, "because we are your friends. And true friends don't care if someone is feeling sad, or alone, or not much fun to be around at all. True friends are there for you anyway. And so here we are."
"Oh," said Eeyore. "Oh." And the three of them sat there in silence, and while Pooh and Piglet said nothing at all; somehow, almost imperceptibly, Eeyore started to feel a very tiny little bit better.
Because Pooh and Piglet were there.
No more; no less.”

Today, 29 April is the birthday of:

          Thomas Beecham
          Malcolm Sargent
          Rudolf Schwartz
          Duke Ellington
          Zubin Mehta
          Lonnie Donegan

Does this provide sufficient evidence for astrology to be taken seriously?   ::)

A rather splendid response to Sainsbury's:
