My gran would have been 121 on April 30th.

How old are you? My gran would have only been 105 in September. :D

One of my husband's grans lived to 103.  What is more she was extremely fit and well up until she was 99, less so after that but still not bad. Can't see me lasting that long but you never know.......

Yes, I take it you are using you iPad? I use my iPad for posting most of the time and sometimes use iPad emoticons here - I assume everyone else can see them too but I hadn't really thought about it much.

My computer has just predicted that there will be no General Election in 2020 as IS will obtain nuclear weapons before then and annihilate the world!

I wouldn't worry about it.

My computer predicted that both myself and another member of this forum are only 19 year old. No names - oh ok take the thumbscrews off - it was Jeremyp.

Clearly computers are rubbish at predicting things.

My granddad would have been 148 yrs this year. He married when he was 50 and dad was born in 1919. I was adopted in the late 60s. And yesterday I went out and bought the Maxspect Glaive led lighting system for my fishies. Some of the colours make my Black skirts a bit scared.  It was snowing here yesterday morning but in the afternoon I was potting hanging baskets and a couple customers popped in to see what I have going and to place their orders for the next couple weeks.

From Wiki:

The modern English word blue comes from Middle English bleu or blewe, from the Old French bleu, a word of Germanic origin, related to the Old High German word blao.[2] In heraldry, the word azure is used for blue.[4]

In Russian and some other languages, there is no single word for blue, but rather different words for light blue (голубой, goluboy) and dark blue (синий, siniy). See Color term.

Several languages, including Japanese, Thai, Korean, and Lakota Sioux, use the same word to describe blue and green. For example, in Vietnamese the colour of both tree leaves and the sky is xanh. In Japanese, the word for blue (青 ao) is often used for colours that English speakers would refer to as green, such as the colour of a traffic signal meaning "go". (For more on this subject, see Distinguishing blue from green in language)

I hope you don't mind me indulging in a bit of pride at my Grandson's first blog entry. He is ten and home schooled.

Hi all, this is T's first ever blog entry. He, like myself, is Dyslexic and usually hates writing. However, he really got into this and has worked super hard and allowed me to help him edit it too. It would encourage him greatly, if anyone does have a few moments to read through and leave some encouraging feedback! Thanks x (My daughter, his Mum)

Diary of a home ed kid

Hello world!
 Posted on May 12, 2015
In my science, I have been learning about this dude Sir Isaac Newton, who from being plonked on the head with an apple discovered all these laws of physics. Well, I tried plonking an apple on my head to see if I could understand all this science stuff better. All I got for my trouble was slightly concussed! Anyway, I致e had to work mega hard to understand his laws of motion. One of the experiments in my textbook was to demonstrate his second law, that objects of a greater mass require a greater force to get them into motion. You had to put the egg on top off the toilet roll tube and the toilet roll tube had to be on top of the pan and the pan was on top of the glass. Then you had to knock the pan. The energy was transferred from the pan into the toilet roll tube which knocked them out of the way. The egg, which has more mass, resisted, staying in the same place until acted upon by gravity and dropped into the glass below. All very well I thought, but I had a better experiment in mind. I tried to get my mum up out of bed on a Saturday morning. This defiantly proved two of Newtons laws. The law of inertia states that something prefers to stay at rest unless acted on by a force and that the second law says that the greater the mass of an object the more force is required to get it into motion. Seriously, getting my mum up on a weekend is no easy task, it required me take all the covers off her, prod her and when that failed I had to use the magic force, the bribe of a coffee, that worked like a charm.

The third law we studied is really weird and wacky. Get this, if I fall over accidently knocking the wall, the wall seeks its revenge. It actually pushes you back with the same of amount force! I kid you not. How bonkers is that? What's even more mad, is the fact that that wall is mostly made of empty space which bends, like a rubber band, when you fall into it. Oh and due to the fact that all atoms have electrons, whizzing at speed, the wall is actually moving too! Ok, so, due to its mass, you don稚 feel the wall hit you back, but the fact is it does. The law states, that for every action there is and equal and opposite reaction. But, wait a minute, I mean if I was to hit my brother, yes there would defiantly be a reaction but I知 betting the force he uses to hit me back wouldn稚 be equal. Given how much bigger he is than me, I知 not so dumb as to try it and find out!

Back to the law of inertia. Once an object is in motion, will stay moving at the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by a force. Ok, so whilst on earth, I know friction an gravity put a stop to most things all too quickly. Now where's the fun in that? Imagine otherwise, throwing the tennis ball for my dogs, Willow and Pippin, they would be chasing that ball for ever! Still if my dogs were launched with their ball into space, that's exactly what would happen, well until either hit by a passing comet or sucked in by the gravity of some planet, forced to orbit it for ever. On second thoughts, its a good job planet earth does have gravity!

Floo, I love this.... please congratulate your grandson, for me, on a wonderful blog.

Original, descriptive text. 'T', I rather hope one of our resident physicists  comments on your endeavours.

By the way..... I think your mum is very clever to manage any kind of a lie-in at weekends.

We don't have any 'stars', unfortunately, on this forum, so two  :) :) will have to do.

Take care, and keep blogging.

Ooops! Edited for spelling!

Just interrupting the sequence to say that I had a very pleasant day with my friends in edinburgh yesterday. trouble-free travel, light lunch at a bistro run by their son and family, shared info about others we knew years ago, then home.
