This morning I was sitting on the settee with feet up listening to an audio book. I decided to move one of the curtains, which I can do from that position; they are lightweight. I flung it easily to my right ... .. and the whole curtain rail fell to the floor, curtains and all!!!

My neighbour had had the same thing happen earlier this week to her bedroom curtain track. Do you think there is a secret message in all this?!!!

Thanks, but I don't think my ITMA type of humour would catch on these days. Perhaps if somebody started a thread with a couple of sentences and each participant added a few more sentences we could see what kind of script would evolve.

The sun is shining and I'd really like to go out walking, but the wind is far too strong, and if I ventured as far as the cliff top, I expect I could easily be blown right off the cliff and over to The Needles!

Well, the wind dropped quite a bit, so I've just been out for half-an-hour, to town and back. Very pleasant.

Appalling. Mind you, I remember mine getting some at a very early age, though not four. I was about eight when we started having home work. Maybe homework for young children nowadays is 'fun' as opposed to slog.

There's no doubt basic education is not as good as it was (I don't want to sound like ''back in the (not so) good old days'', but it is so. Kids learn how to pass exams - and gain great kudos for their school, league tables and all that - but leave school not seeming to know very much. Maybe that is the result of too much emphasis on learning for exams and not enough all round education. I don't know - but I wouldn't want to be a teacher. They have more pressure than ever.

Someone with whom I am friendly - both husband and wife are ''bods'' - have two kids aged 12 and 14. They believe there should not be any homework. Whilst I believe there can be too much homework, I can't quite work out how anyone survives without some independent study. Anyway their kids do it, regardless of their parents' beliefs. It should not be too stressful though and it is up to parents to make sure their children are not pushed too hard. Kids blossom if they are nurtured.

I would, fascinating stuff poo, guy on radio yesterday talking about a baby eating its mothers poo just before it is born, he said something like, the baby is fully human in the womb and then 50% human when it is born after eating its mothers poo ( I may have that bit completely wrong ) anyway the baby needs its mothers poo for gut bacteria.

Poo is brilliant stuff, ask any child.

It certainly is a good thing.
My cats are microchipped. The last time Thomas was injured by a car, someone took him to a local vet who telephoned us because of the microchip.
Years ago, though, my son said that microchipping was the thin end of the wedge because, ''First it's pets, next it will be children''.

All very sinister and Bib Brotherish. So we didn't bother. Then one went missing, we were lucky that we managed to locate him (it was Thomas, always is), once again at a vet surgery. After that we had them all chipped and sucks to what young offspring thought. That was a long time ago, the cats are getting old now.

It all seems a bit Big Brotherish to me floo. Scary really if you think about the implications. I remember once Bev (I'm sure she won't mind me mentioning her in this benign context), saying she thought it might be a good idea for children, when they go missing. I saw her point although I don't think microchipping traces anyone or any animal's whereabouts, it's just that they can be identified if found.

For myself, the government has enough information on me, or I presume so, without having more on a specific database and I feel there is already sufficient invasion of privacy in our society.

Good for you floo but it isn't necessarily about wanting to hide stuff about ourselves (I doubt we can anyway), it's just that everything can be exposed and undoubtedly there are people and organisations that would tap into confidential information. It's not always about an individual, it can concern family. We often read in the media of quite decent people who are suddenly thrust into the limelight because of something a relative did. That's not nice. It's particular bad for children who are innocent and not responsible for something an unknown aunt or uncle did in years gone by.

This morning my daughter-in-law (who is very good at picking out just the right thing) very kindly took me out to the curtain material shop and the carpet shop and we have chosen curtains and carpet for my bedroom. It is a real treat to be able to order them knowing that I can use some of the compensation money! Mind you, I do not recommend my method of obtaining such money!
