Jack - "... that's old age for you!!!" - on the contrary, your mosquito sounds as though it's extremely youthful!

I think it had just had a blood transfusion, that's all. Something I need!

Saw a black fox the other night. I believe they are rare. I thought it was a street lighting effect but got a closer look where a normal one I'd seen previously and sure enough it was, well, a dark charcoal.

This is probably for Hope.

This week the Flying Scotsman (pictured in my avatar) has been running in our local vicinity. So, at lunchtime today, the OH and I drove to the nearest viewing spot which is right on the SVR track. What a wonderful experience.... 'she' really is magnificent. You'd be amazed how quiet, too. It was all over in a flash but we managed to take a video.

Now our wee grandson must see the footage.... we took him on the regular steam train a few weeks ago.

It's very rare to see a black fox, Jack.  Only five sightings in this country in as many years, apparently.  Pity you didn't have camera handy.

You're joking, only five? He/she is a regular round here as I've seen it three times. I know it is the same one as it has a white tip a the end of its tail. As for a camera it was pretty dark for such things, especially as black doesn't show up too well in the dark, as Gazza joked to his cost.

Here's an article (from last year) about a black fox, with photographs, Jack.  Quite beautiful.

I wonder if the fox has a mate or will have a mate, maybe a red fox as there are so few black ones.  If so you might find the fox brings its cubs into your garden during daylight - tortoiseshell?  I don't know what mixed race foxes are called :-).  We used to see red fox cubs every year, our cats played with them.

At my last house I had a regular vixen visitor;  and eventually she brought her litter into the garden, and they came regularly, waiting outside the kitchen door, hoping for something.

They are gorgeous aren't they?  I used to feed the foxes regularly and treated a couple for mange until a few years ago when there were reports of them becoming too bold and attacking people.  Not just one report, there were a few.  One woman was in bed and woke up with a fox biting her ear!  Another fox bit a small child.  So it seemed the right thing to stop feeding them, after all they used to manage well enough, hunting and scavenging - but I liked them.

Foxes still pass through the garden occasionally and I have to say they don't seem any worse for me not feeding them.  Some are really beautiful - but never seen a black one.

Thanks for that. Mine was the same with that white speckled effect on the body, from what I could tell. It could have just been sheen from the streetlights, but it was pretty much the same as the photos.

Hee hee.  However, even without the sexual connotations it's rather a gross thing to say.  A bit "Yeuch".  So I don't like him and won't invite him round for tea.

Getting back to black foxes, last night was something. Getting up at 3 to go to the bathroom I looked out to see if it was there and after a short while it came and approach quite near, so I got a good look at it. It seemed quit youthful for something had caught it's attention and it was doing that excited leaping and dancing - quite charming. It then moved on.

I couldn't sleep and after a while I heard this grunting sound so I looked out and there it was again (not a sound I recognize as being of a fox). It went into the shadows and began eating something, so all I could see was this black morphing smudge. Then I noticed some movement to the right and a second black fox joined it. Eventually the first quickly left and soon after the other one followed it.

I potted about a bit and before I went back to bed I looked out again and saw another fox but this one was grey. The photo link that Brownie provided showed these foxes having flecks of white in their fur so this one must have had many more to create the grey look. Could of just been old. Seems the black fox gene is strong round my parts.

I have bought a new piece of equipment for the tap class. It's a Portogram B75V and it arrived today. My neighbour came in to show me which button is which (I put bump0ons on the main ones I am going to use) so I'll see how it goes at class tomorrow.

The tea chers at the dance school use iphones but I simply couldn't manage those.

Yeh, I am not sentimental about animals, but the neighbours worship the ground on which their dog walks and treat it like a human! It even has its own Christmas tree! ::)

Came into possession of one of those plastic fivers a week ago. Really liked it. The BoE should start making plastic 10ers and 20's straight away.

Yesterday I had a mini fire in the kitchen. A plastic seal from one of the square fridge containers had fallen near one of the back gas rings. I didn't see it when I turned on the gas under a saucepan, but  a few minutes later I saw some rather jolly little flames on the side of the small choppingboard which was leaning against the wall behind the hob. I turned on the cold tap and carefully carrying the board - the handle was not on fire - and put it in the sink. Then when it had gone out - but not quite - I opened the back door and threw it out onto the path. My neighbour came in to see what other damage I had done, but fortunately it was just bits of the plastic lid sticking to things. Next time my cleaner comes, I'll ask her to see if she can scrape it off. I'm always sensible and careful, but will make sure in future always to check that the hob is clear.

A couple of days ago we had yet another unsolicited phone call. My wife answered this one, but I suddenly heard her give a rather heartfelt sounding expletive, just before she put the phone down. On enquiring what gave rise to this rather out of character response on her part, she told me it was someone trying to sell us triple glazing. However when she quite politely declined(as we always do), the caller finished by saying the immortal words: "Remember, Jesus still loves you." I gather that it was this that led to her rather interesting and rather emotive reaction. :)

I found it quite amusing, and, on reflection, so did my wife. ;D

Can people not post as Guest on here?  I honestly don't know, floo and haven't seen any new/old people around today - which means little because I often don't notice things.

Oh well, I daresay we'll find out in due course.  As you say, not big deal in the general scheme.
