Welcome back Steve! Plenty to get your choppers into - go on, son  :D

Will do! I was most disappointed on another thread to be agreed with by Floo...

Hospital today - pills apparently working, lump slightly smaller, no op even being considered , come back in six months time!  Well, I thought that would probably be the opinion, but it is definitely good news. :) :)

This morning I pressed the button for a controlled crossing. No-one else crossing. The green man lit up, the beeps sounded. I held up my white stick ... and a car went straight across in front of me. Fortunately, I had not actually stepped off the kerb. Just as well I was wearing my hearing aids, the sound of the engine was not right for a car slowing down.

Is it worth reporting this? Presumably the car will be on camera but it won't show that you were on the pavement.

I did wonder about that, so I phoned 101 and spoke to a person in the enquiries dept who said she would record it in case similar events happen at the same place. As far as I know, there isn't a camera there - I'll see if I can find out.

Like the case of the jogger pushing the woman into the road on Putney Bridge. I am just astonished at he number of nasty minded selfish people out there.
Ah, but I was so much older then ... I'm younger than that now

On my walk this morning I found £40 in notes lying on the pavement. I phoned 101 when I got in, but the police had no interest in the matter whatsoever. I have put a notice up near where I found the money, stating that if anyone has lost any money to call me, and tell me how much they are supposed to have lost. If a person phones and can't give the exact amount, of course they don't get the money. If the owner doesn't claim it by the end of the week I shall donate it to charity.
They may have lost more than £40 though. All you know for sure is that they lost at least that amount.

Under the Theft Act 1968, a person is guilty of theft if they “dishonestly appropriate property [including cash] belonging to another”.

‘Lost property will continue to “belong to another”, unless it has genuinely been abandoned by the owner. The fact that cash has been dropped in the street does not necessarily mean it has been abandoned.’

However, he adds that in the end it’s down to whether you could reasonably believe the owner of the cash was untraceable, or you had already taken reasonable steps to find them – such as by going to the police.

WOW, the Red Arrows have just flown passed our house, FANTASTIC! :)
That's not fair! :) Could you please tell them to fly past mine?! Are there nine of them again?

when they flew over the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony in Glasgow, I watched it on TV and then went out onto the balcony as they flew over my flat

'Scuse me, while I go and sulk! :D They will actually be at the Bournemouth Air Show three times later this week, but it is no good trying to see them.  Even if I did decide to get the train and then find my way down to near the pier somewhere, I'd need someone to keep pointing out where they were to make it worth while. But at least I have been there, done that, got the Red Arrow mug!

I found out today that my web site, which used a free space provided bymy ISP when I joined back in about 2002, has been DIS-CON-TIN-UED, i.e. the free web space has been discontinued. This means that my personal web site  is no longer available and has vanished for ever into  a cyber grave.

And today I find I hav shingles!! Well, I could really do without that, thank you very much! On my neck left hand side front. Saw Duty Doc (who happened to be my GP which was good) at 8:30 this morning and have started the pills - 7 days, 5 a day. I  have to say that I am very dis-pleased And I checked this afternoon about swimming, and I cannot swim until two weeks after it has cleared completely.

Bad luck, Susan, when I had it, I felt as sick as a dog, and stayed in bed.   The drugs do help.

My rash got better quite quickly, although it hurt like hell to start with.  About a week.  But I felt very tired for 2 weeks.   It's a nasty virus.

I am so sorry to hear about your shingles, Susan.  Very unpleasant.  It will clear up soon but is not nice while you have it - give yourself a fortnight (I had it not long after aunt died two and a bit years ago). However, in a few days you will feel much better if not quite recovered.
