This morning I walked to Barton, sat on the  bench by the Beachcomber, got out my mobile to phone  for a taxi home. No ringing tone. I asked a passerby walking her dog, if she would be kind enough to see why it didn't seem to be working. No signal or something. She got out her phone - same thing. She walked to a different spot - same result. She then asked me where I lived - and drove me home. That was so very kind. Such a nice woman too - has lived in this area for almost as long as I have but she is much younger!

My son, my baby boy, officially now has bigger feet than I do. How did that happen?  :-\

Ah, yes, I remember the day I was tryin to tell my younger son off and he was tall enough to look down slightly at me! :D

Today I bought a new non-slip bath mat to stand on when I shower for safety. I read the instructions because I don't want it to perish too quickly. Rule No. 6 was to avoid something or other because it would 'effect efficiency', so for fun I looked up the company and found a contact number, spoke to a chap and explained the problem! He said that next time they order another lot from China, they wil correct this!!

They shoot up, don’t they? My younger daughter is taller than me now, and in the car this evening I suddenly realised my son has a deep, manly singing voice now.

Our middle daughter phoned this morning to say our eldest grandson (16) passed his Grade 6 piano exam with flying colours. :)

His brother (nearly 14) belongs to an archery club, which he joined a couple of months ago. They had some former Olympians visiting the club last night. Apparently they were highly impressed with his prowess in the sport and reckon he could represent his country in the future.  :)

I am a proud old granny.  :)

Both of my sons make me look like a midget that's the trouble when you adopt them you've very little idea of much about what they're likely to grow into, I suppose it's a bit of a bonus but there was little fear of them being as good looking as their parents, tough but they had to be told.

Regards to all ippy

The bridle path at the back of our property is being mown and the trees cut back, for the first time this year. Special tractors are used for the purpose. Usually it would have been done at least half a dozen times by now, but our council is strapped for cash. Normally it doesn't cause us any problems but because it has been left so long the tree branches are larger and one of them about 18 inches long and a couple of inches wide flew over our fence, and hit our sunroom patio doors! Fortunately no damage was done. I have had a word with guys who were most apologetic. I also noticed the Millennium Stone put up when the bridle path was created has been knocked over an damaged, WHOOPS! Not entirely their fault as it was completely grown over and they couldn't have seen it.  I suspect the council will get some flak for that.

I have spent most of the afternoon at the hospital with my husband. He has a possible UTI, but they are going to check out it isn't his dodgy prostate going pear shaped. I must admit it is a relief that they have kept him in, as the last two days haven't been easy to put it mildly. :o No doubt they will kick him out soon, in all probability tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear that,YR. I hope the hospital can put him back on track again.
I seem to have been visiting hospitals fairly regularly lately! I'm still waiting for results of tests.  Latest thing has been low potassium.

So today after having had the hall and stairs redecorated, I thought I would spruce up the blinds we have up at the stair windows.

Who knew the blinds were silver ?

I am ashamed to say the layer of dust that has accumulated over the past (ahem) several years has given the impression that the colour was a sort of murky grey. A rancid pond look if you will.

The rest of the house does get cleaned, honest. It's just these blinds are awkward to get to - and as Quentin Crisp once remarked:

“There is no need to do any housework at all. After the first four years the dirt doesn't get any worse.”
Before we work on Artificial Intelligence shouldn't we address the problem of natural stupidity.

I'm with Crisp on that one but I'm reliably informed that dust bunnies do become feral after a while.

My house is thoroughly cleaned once a fortnight which suits me. We always have a tidy up the night before the cleaner's due.

Thanks for the kind comments. :) I phoned the hospital a few minutes ago to see how my husband is doing, I was told he had a comfortable night, whatever that actually means. He will undergo a number of tests today. My daughter and I will visit him this afternoon.

I saw my husband this afternoon and he didn't seem too bad, apparently the scan was clear, but we still haven't been told exactly what his problem is, I assume it is a bad UTI. My daughters are visiting him tomorrow and I will go in on Sunday. I get the impression they are hoping to discharge him on Monday, all being well.
