Yep.
Couldn't care less what they look like, but the grip on the sole is great for frosty or light snowy weather.

A man living in Devon was stuck on his flat roof for three days. That would be bad enough if he was a young chap, but this guy is 102.  :o He is in a stable condition in hospital.

I think encouraging kids to play a gambling game could encourage them to take it up seriously later on in life. Many people are addicted to gambling, especially these days as it is all too easy to lose a lot of money on line in seconds. >:(

I usually come down on the side of 'it's all just good fun' but in this case I'm with LR. I know first hand what gambling addiction does.

In a few days time, my older son will be 59.  He maintains a good level of fitness - all the yers he was an RAF Hercules pilot, that was essential.
The younger one is only two years behindHe too is fit and well.
There was an 82-year-old on the Stephen Nolan show the other day and when asked about his age, he replied 'But I still think of myself as 28!' sensible man!

So I noticed that the BBC were showing "Truly, Madly, Deeply" last night on TV. Decided to watch it again for a couple of reasons. When I first watched it I remembered enjoying the film immensely, so that was one reason. The other reason was Alan Rickman naturally.

So why did I find it unwatchable? Had to turn it off. Could not stand it. Strange how the passage of time, and possibly one's mood, affects our tastes.

Not something I have watched, not my thing. I liked Rickman in the Harry Potter series.

I have watched things again which I used to like when young, but been disappointed when I watched them again in later years.

Trent, I remember not enjoying 'Truly, Madly, Deeply' with Juliet Stephenson, a little less than 20 years ago. So not surprising you didn't like it more recently. That's how it goes I'm afraid.

I know when I saw it I had the idea it was a remake of something older/classic and it wasn't. Juliet Stephenson was worthy of more but I daresay some liked it.

Although given that it’s competition at the time was Ghost...

Best story I heard about Juliet Stephenson was from Paul Merton. It was when there was a fashion fur making Shakespeare ‘accessible’ by casting comedians and the like in minor roles. He was playing Fourth Tankard or something and was waiting to record his line for R4, and JS and some other Serious Actors were benonabing that they couldn’t find someone to direct them at the RSC or whatever. PM said ’ ‘I’ll do it. Yeah, go on, I’ll give it a go.’ Apparently JS wasn’t amused. ‘Well the look she give me.’  ;D

I slipped over on my daily walk this morning and have fractured the top of my right arm quite badly. :o I can't remember when I have in so much pain. I have an appointment at the fracture clinic tomorrow. I can't use that arm at all so I don't know how I will manage, but no doubt we will find a way to do so. Our eldest girl is being FANTASTIC. :)

You poor girl! You really go through it don't you. Not that long ago that you had an accident if I remember correctly. Can imagine a break is painful. For goodness sakes don't try and do anything with that arm even when it starts to feel better.

I think Juliet Stephenson is no doubt a good actress but I am reminded, whenever I see her on screen, of her abysmal choice of taking part in Channel 5's prejudiced and ignorant drama 'Hear the Silence' which, at the height of the MMR scare, was supportive of the view that the MMR jab was linked to autism. Hugh Bonneville took the part of the now disgraced Dr Wakefield, and the whole rotten offering encouraged those who were against MMR.

Some months ago I saw an old episode of 'Judge John Deed' which was about mobile 'phone masts causing neurological problems including cancer.That theory has since been debunked like the MMR-autism link. However at the time there seemed to be quite reasonable connections.

I do like Juliet Stephenson btw, regardless of her taking parts in dubious dramas.  Don't they all?

I saw her in Burn This with John Malcovich. He was extraordinary, in a play I didn't really like. She was just there. I think she can be very good but often for me feels mannered. She was excellent in Liaisons Dangereuses, acting with Alan Rickman who I think gave the best stage performance I have ever seen.


Linking to the discussion of the 50 pound note, she played Rosalind Franklin in The Race for the Double Helix.

Sounds horrendous, LR. Hope you have lots of lovely pain relief to help you feel better. Good to know you have help around too.

Oh dear: you need to look after yourself and do as you are told!

Might be an idea to give the weightlifting a miss for a couple of days  :)

YES SIR. ;D I didn't sleep at all last night, I just couldn't get comfortable whatever I  did. I have an appointment at the fracture clinic at 9.30am, I don't think they are going to do anymore than give me advice.

A couple of years ago, my mother, in her seventies, slipped over and broke her leg just above the ankle. She had to have surgery but she has made a complete recovery albeit I think there is still some metalwork in there. In fact, she is fitter now than she was then because, after being immobile for a while she had to build up strength in her leg again and she kept on with the exercise.

I think you’ll be fine.
