No.1 son Danny, daughter-in-law Nic, and grand-daughter Harriet arrived today, all the way from Melbourne, Australia. I was shocked to realise that I hadn't seen Danny for about 20 years; he's 41, and has spent about half his life in Australia, and has the accent now. Nic(ole) is Aussie born and bred, though she comes from Perth, on the West Coast, which is about as far from Melbourne as London is from Eastern Europe. Harriet is seven, eight in a couple of weeks. Tomorrow, they're off to visit other relatives, coming back here for a few days in early Feb. before going back, and taking Harriet to London on her birthday. I recommended the London Eye, which I went on with No. 2 son in 2000, when it opened, but there are of course tons of things to see and do in London. We went to our local Wetherspoons for lunch; kids are allowed in during the day. Harriet is apparently a great reader, a girl after my own heart. I asked her what she liked reading, and she said "books". Sensible answer! Dan was amazed at how much Hemel Hempstead town centre has changed.

I hope you had their permission to post this photo?

I always get concerned when I see a picture of a child on forums as they can be used by perverts for their sick purposes. I got into terrible trouble years ago when I proudly posted a photo of one of my grandsons. Their Mum really tore me off a strip, explaining what a pervert might do with such a photo.

Do perverts only "use" photos which don't have permission?

It's not a daft question at all, you walked right into that one!

Steveh they're good pictures (& I much like your bookcase) but please tell me what Harriet has on her head in the first pic.

A unicorn horn and ears Alice band. Glad you like the photos! They've now headed off to visit other relatives, and are coming back for a few days inearly Feb., before heading back to Oz.

Saw GP this morning - yes, I am functioning on one-and-ahalf arteries! But he was explaining that the heart is an amazing organ which  can create new pathways for itself to keep itself working, which mine must be apparently quite good at doing! I could last for years,!
Yes, I did have a small heart attack and yes, they will do a stent later if necessary, but best avoided if possible.

Also had a letter from Bournemouth Hospital today saying that they had made an appointment for me on 1st April for the Gastroenterology Dept! Why, I wondered, and so did the GP. So I phoned, left a message with the secretaries, one of whom phoned back just now to say that there was a mistake because of the initials of the consultants concerned ! A corrected letter will be sent out soon.

That sounds really positive Susan.

And as to the stent my Mum had two at the age of 91 and it all went really well, so if it does become necessary to have stenting try not to fret too much (easier said than done, I know).

Thank you for your post.
My goodness! Two stents at 91, that's quite something. Family history means that the odds are not good, but I am very lucky that I am not one who frets about such things.

I went to the fracture clinic this afternoon. I have been told that whilst my fracture is not completely healed, I have enough movement in my arm to drive again as long as I take it easy. BIG RELIEF! I will only go down to the supermarket and back to start with, and take it from there. I have just been on a short drive and back with no problems. :)

I am very saddened today to hear that a friend with whom I have been going out to coffee on Saturdays for years now died yesterday. She had phoned to say she was 'too poorly' to go out on Saturday ... ... and her son phoned me this morning.

I have known her - she lives just near - for fifty years and although our lives did not overlap daily, we have talked whenever we met. A most kind and thoughtful person - one of the things she has done for a long time is to make sure my landing light is on at night; she can see my upstairs windows from her upstairs windows. I shall miss her a lot.

One of the undertakers, with whom our vicar daughter has contact, never fails to ask after her senile old mother's health, one could feel quite twitchy! ;D ;D ;D

GOD, I hate mobile phones! I bought a cheap payg one a week ago, and couldn't get the thing set up - it had no instructions worth talking of, and I couldn't work out how to put the £10 credit on to it, so in the end I gave it to my son. Today, I bought another, slightly more expensive, but a model I've had before, but had to use my Swiss Army knife to prise the back off. While doing so, I managed to slice my thumb open, and bled all over the nice clean floor of the cafe in Sainsbury's. Then I had to get the SIM card in, and it was a while before I realised that I had to press out the smaller one: why the f... why on earth do they have different sizes? getting it in was horribly fiddly: someone with arthritis couldn't do it. I've finally got it set up with the time and date and £10 worth of credit on it but I still HATE MOBILE PHONES!.  >:(  >:(  >:(

And another thing: YOY have 3G stopped selling £25 top-up vouchers, when that is still the price of seven gigawhatsits on my payg wifi? £20, the new highest priced voucher, only gets you 3, which goes nowhere, and is much poorer value. To get roughtly thesame value deal, I have to buy a new SIM card with 12 gigwhatsits on, for £40. Changing the SIM card every time is bloody daft!

I can't say they thrill me either. I have a basic phone to take with me when I am driving in case of emergency, it is always switched off and rarely sees the light of day. My children are not pleased with me as I flatly refuse to learn how to text.

I had nothing better to do for a few minutes so I googled members of my family and extended family. It was interesting to see how many of us are featured, including my husband and myself. I am not talking about FB or other social media sites.
