This morning I could hear a lot of noise sort of inside the house - it took me a while, because the noise was not continuous, to realise that a pigeon must have fallen down the chimney and is now behind the gas fire in the lounge.  Gas chap coming this afternoon, so I hope it is not too difficult to remove what I presume is now a dead pigeon.
The protective cowl I had fixed on the chimney years ago must have broken or something, so that's another job that will need doing.

Our youngest daughter and family had a FANTASTIC time at the Harry Potter Experience last week. She said it was the best outing they have ever had, and not too expensive either. She brought me a Harry Potter tea towel and the guide book, which looks like an interesting read.

Gas heating and plumbing chap came this afternoon and yes, there was a pigeon, dead, plus the skeleton of another! So he cleaned it all including the fire itself. He will come back next week to make sure the chimney is properly covered to prevent further problems!

I am glad you have that sorted out Susan. :) Our present house doesn't have a chimney, for which I am thankful, having had problems with them at previous properties of ours.

A couple of weeks ago I decided to rejoin the Community Association. I used to be a member when I used to belong to the discussion group years ago. I can't join in much, but will call in for coffee occasionally. Today I had an invitation to a New Members Tea and Cakes on 23rd - but I do not expect a lively afternoon! I pass it almost every day, so I thought it will be a good idea to be a member.

Also today a copy of my Health andWelfare addition to LPA arrived, so that's available if necessary.

Our eldest girl has a new name for her aged parents, 'The Ice Cubes'. Our boiler packed up the day we had snow, FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :o We knew a new boiler would be required this year but hoped it would last out until the summer months. Typical that is should end its life when the weather is at its coldest. We have no hot water, so I boil a kettle for the washing up, and fortunately one of our showers is electric, otherwise we would be smelly as well as cold. The fan heaters are on overtime, but I reckon an igloo would be much warmer than our abode at present! The new boiler has arrived and our plumber/boiler specialist will start installing it tomorrow, it is likely to take two days to fit. So by the weekend with a bit of luck, we might have some heat. Although no doubt by then we will probably have a heatwave! ;D

Sheldon came unexpectedly this morning and removed the old boiler. He prepared everything ready for the new one to be put in tomorrow, he hopes that by tomorrow evening we will have the heating on, fingers crossed.

WE HAVE HEATING. :) Sheldon has done a wonderful job, we are so pleased. He doesn't charge much either, no wonder he never has to advertise and is so popular that he is overworked. A multimillionaire employs him when needed and that guy can afford the best, he drives a £16,000,000 car!!!!!!!!! My baby sister keeps threatening to kidnap Sheldon whenever she needs any plumbing done, as he is so reasonable whereas you need to be a multimillionaire to afford the prices trades people charge in Guernsey!   :o

My Salisbury son has visited this morning and sorted out the Alexa so that I can now listen to Radio 4 again.

Just before he arrived, I had heard a voice coming from the computer saying something I couldn't make out, but it did it again and the words were: There is no mains power. So he fixed that too by switching back the switch on the meter.

And he re-ibnflated my fitness ball for me too! I use it to sit at the computer sometimes.

All in all, a satisfactory visit!

My husband and I have just purchased a couple of keyrings for £100! Now before anyone tells us we have more money than sense, I will explain. Our vicar daughter runs an after school club for primary school children, for Lent the children came up with the idea of making key rings for a homeless charity. They hoped they would raise as much as £100, which of course seems a lot of money to kids of that age. We didn't want them to be disappointed so hence the expensive keyrings. :)

Sounds good to me LR. I  have asked for money towards Chester Zoo for my birthday which was on 4th of Aprll, and we all asked for same when my dad died in March. So we will no doubt be given a nice bouquet of flowers or plant and some money for the charity of our choice which suits us fine. There has also been the Mozambique/ Somalia appeal. So many horrible things happening.

You did the right thing about the expensive key rings, imo.

I woke around 2:0 a.m.
I noticed what I thought was a smell of gas. Went to the window, which was open, and could smell it outside. Checked downstairs - all okay. Opened lounge window - same smell outside. Phoned the emergency number, thinking someone would say, 'Ah, yes, we have had a problem in the area' or something.  The meter is outside lounge window. A chap came along and checked thoroughly, but he said he could smell it in the air from when he left his house. Seems there was some kind of Southampton dock area to do with plastics and a large cloud of some kind of gas, not dangerous, had risen into the air and was being blown miles away by the wind.

I'm glad I did not call anyone out on a wild goose chase, but was obviously right about the smell. thank goodness we have sensible and very capable engineers on call 24 hours a day to make sure all is safe.

I've just had a scam phone call! Some bored voice from goodness knows where asking if I was Mrs Susan, then being encouraged to continue, he said The Ministry of Something...
Me interrupting: which ministry
Him: Repeated something that sounded like Ministry of ... oh dear, I've forgotten already!
Me: Go on
Him: The Government have chosen you to receive
At which point I burst out laughing and he put the phone down!!! :D

I've just had a phone call from somebody with an American accent claiming to be from British Telecom saying that they were going to cut off my Broadband.  I didn't wait to hear the rest and hung up.

You didn't suggest that you had scissors ready to cut off the electricity?

I had one of those about three weeks ago. I just put the phone down without comment, as it was of course a scam.

No, but I wish I had the phone number it came from so that I could impersonate Donald Trump and say 'You have offended me bigly with your fake news.  I have instructed the FBI to arrest you immediately'.

More and more now these scammers get hold somehow of UK numbers, so try dialling 1471, write down the number and then google it!! You get some interesting results, mostly from people who have thought, correctly,  they were scam numbers.

Unfortunately, I can't manage without one, but I either put the phone down straight away, or play along for a bit. I never feel concerned or ruffled by scam calls and fortunately, I don't have that many.
