Update on my thrilling life since February: my apple trees are coming to the end of their blossoming, and were smothered in blossom. The bees and other pollenating insects did their bit, and it looks as though I'll get a very heavy crop this year - except off my 'Bramley's Seedling', which for some reason didn't produce much blossom, and therefore won't produce much fruit. I'll be making lots of cider in October. I didn't make any last year because the crop was too light, but I managed ten gallons in 2017, when I had a heavy crop. I hope my trees aren't all going into biennial-bearing, but gallons of cider every two years is ok. I will be spending much of today knocking my neglected back garden into shape. (I'm in the first of two weeks annual leave.)
I've been doing lots of cycling, now that the weather is improving. On Monday, I went to Aylesbury (from Hemel Hempstead) and back, out via canal towpaths and back by road. 38 miles.

For our Scottish posters, in particular, I have just seen this, it is so very pretty. :)

A well dressed, very polite woman turned up at our daughter's church with a toddler and baby claiming she had lost her credit card and her car was nearly out of petrol and would someone be kind enough to lend her some money. Our daughter said she would take them home in her car, funnily enough the woman disappeared. Our girl heardr from other clergy she had tried it on at their churches too. The police have been informed.

So yesterday as part of our on-going search for a property on the South coast we ended up in Shoreham on Sea. Purely by accident - or my lack of a sense of direction. Anyhow, it is amazing how the perception I had of a place I had, admittedly, never visited, was so different from the reality.

I had, in the past, only seen Shoreham from afar, Brighton to be exact. I just dismissed it as a power station near the sea. How wrong can one be. It's a nice little place with a fairly old town centre and is on the banks of the river Adur. Rivers do generally make places more interesting I find. Low tide and the river bed was scattered with assorted fishing boats and house boats and boats that don't appear to have any recognisable function.

It struck me as the kind of place Dickens might have written about. Anyway back in Nottingham now, not the kind of place Dickens ever wrote about.

Oh my goodness. I used to drink in there regularly (in the 80's)!

I've not been in since Mercure took it over. Will pop in when I next venture into the City centre. (Expect a report back sometime next year!)

Why is it household appliances seem to pack up around the same time? In the last three months we have required a new boiler, vacuum cleaner, and yesterday a new washing machine. If more pack up I will need to stand on the street corner waiting for people to pay me to go away. ;D ;D ;D

I have been busy this morning. I cut down a monkey puzzle tree, rearranged my husband's bedroom, moving his bed from one end of the large room to the other, and his clothes chests. I also lugged up the stairs a heavy leather chair, he wanted in his room. Soon I will have muscles like those of a body builder! ;D

What an idiot. If he ever reaches maturity he might regret his crazy looks, as well as probably be an embarrassment to his child. :o

Not only have I had a slightly unusual week, but today I have toothache (apt on Monday) and to cap it all managed to tip over on the  floor a saucepan with just ready to eat minced beef plus a Dolmio sauce. Both my neighbours are out, so I had to call my son in Salisbury to come down and clear up the mess. I just couldn't see where to start. I was inordinately upset, which is quite unusual for me. Anyway, he has just gone having cleaned and tidied up everything. So that was very kind of him.

Thank you!  He said there is a large stain on the carpet and he's going to look at the house insurance to see if a small claim could be made,. On the bright sidee - I can't see it!

However, there is an item of lovely good news in the family - older granddaughter is now engaged

I really feel for you , I fully understand how living on your own can be a challenge sometimes especially when illness or injury have to be contended with and of course , you have limited vision too.
If I had been available I would have loved to come over and help and maybe had a nice glass of something together .
Usually I can be wherever I want to be but my van/home is off the road for repairs at the moment so I'm fairly stuck in one place(which is driving me nuts)
So stay strong and keep smiling SD

best wishes

Quite a few of my friends are now great-grandparents! I hope I shall live long enough to be one too!

Yesterday I rang yourDolphin and ordered a new computer (desktop). I hkeep having to turn this one off and let it  cool down or something whenthe the fans make a noise. the Tech chap tried to get replacement fans, but it is proving quite tricky and in any case this is what is nowadays called old, since it dates from 2011 and it's Windows 7 which,I'm told, ceases to be 'supported' in December. Well, I was going to wait to see if I was likely to live long enough to make it worth while :D but that's ridiculous! I don't care how long I've got, I'm going to have the benefit of a new computer anyway! Dolphin will put my SuperNova software on, plus e-mail, but the Tech chap will transfer the small amount of stuff stored.

I have had the first hour of root canal treatment this afternoon, so have rung Wiltshire Farm Foods to order some soft meals to be delivered on Wednesday to have until next Monday, when I go for the second one. There may have to be a third apt, but I don't care if it means my teeth will last longer than me.   :)

Wow! That's quite something! :)

Makes me feel like Methuselah and I'm only 77.

Oh yes I was listening to BBC radio 4 this afternoon (1/7/19) at about fourish I heard a Starling speaking in parrot fashion saying, 'European Starling' amongst other things and no I haven't been at the bottle see if you can do a catch up on that one, there's a Shakespearian connection to it.

I would think a talking Starling would be right up your street Susan,
