I remember that from school. In Henry Vl pt l Hotspur says he will teach a starling to say 'Mortimer' to the king. I'll see if I can find the quot.

PS Here it is. Got that from BBC, there's a picture and they are beautiful, colourful birds albeit destructive:-
"Nay, I'll have a starling shall be taught to speak nothing but Mortimer, and give it to him to keep his anger still in motion,"

I didn't know they could talk!

Nor did I know they could mimic our voices either; I'm a listen to jabber when I have the radio on person, I sort of don't hear the bits I'm not interested in and then I seem to catch on to a word or something and some sort of auto pilot kicks in then I'm all ears.

This BBC Rad 4 programme cut in whilst I was on my hands and knees weeding my veg patch in the garden where they, the announcer referred to a Starlings and a Shakespeare connection with the US of A, if you haven't already done so you should do a catch up on it I found it fascinating.

I've now got another one of those lesser known facts added to my list that enables me to pass it onto my reluctant listener friends whilst, at the same time, I've got the the doorway blocked before they can leave, this can be very therapeutic for me not so much for my ex-friends though.

Regards ippy

Dolphin phoned me last week to say that my new computer was ready and we arranged for this to be today. So I have been all day waiting for it. A van turned up about midday and a chap came to the door with a package for which I had to sign. It was obviously not the computer - too small, too lightweight. I phone Dolphin an dtold them.  It still hasn't arrived. It's probably not Dolphin's fault - they sent the computer and the keyboard to couriers. It seems to be the couriers who have, for some unknown reason, separated the two boxes. So a beautiful day has been wasted sitting around waiting for a delivery.

Whether the new one is up and running this week or next isn't a matter of great importance, but I have had to cancel the Tech chap's intended visit tomorrow to do that.

A bit fed up!

Computer arrived Thursday afternoon, Tech chap came and made it workable and again today to make it the way I like it.

But, more importantly, something I have known for about six weeks now is official - my older granddaughter and her fiancé are expecting a baby end January.
Smiles and excitement all round!!

The Whaley Bridge residents have been given permission to return to their homes. I bet their insurance will be sky high and they may well have difficulty trying to sell their houses should they wish to do so. No way would I wish to live below a reservoir.  :o

Our third started back and Nursery today, and the baby has a check-up, but social services have just shut our eldest daughter's day service place for two weeks due to 'staff shortages'... I'm at work, but it's not making life easy for Mrs. O. to keep having to change schedules.

Last time I had a flu jab (I get it free becos of job), as did my dad, mum, in laws and sister, dad and I had very bad flu end Nov beg Dec. My flu progressed to chest infection, my old dad recovered well but it took me longer.  Couldn't go to nephew's Christmassy wedding, my husband and two daughters went without me - he took a lot of persuading but it was important he went, it's his sister's son.

I'm not keen to have the flu jab again.

I get a flu jab every year but my doctor's advice is to get it as late as possible as it only lasts for about six months. I usually get mine about November.

That's very traumatic for you and him Littleroses. I really hope he is OK once he's had all the investigations & is suitably treated. Also I want you and your children to be alright. Thinking of you.

I spoke to my husband this morning, he seems his usual self and says he is fine apart from being bored stiff. I have a list of things I have been instructed to bring in when we visit him at 1pm, to make his stay less boring!  I have told him how fortunate he is to have been admitted to the stroke unit, especially as they only had one bed free, and he is staying there until they discover what caused yesterday's problem. He should see the neurologist tomorrow, they won't keep him in any longer than necessary.

Sounds positive littleroses. I hope whatever it was, was not too serious and he'll soon be home with you.

If it was a TIA it can always occur again, unfortunately. Both his parents had strokes, which carried them off.

Yes TIAs do occur again, sometimes several times. However if Mr Littleroses definitely did have a TIA the doctors will presumably give him advice & put him on medication to avoid it happening again.
Let us know how he gets on Littleroses.

Our daughter and I saw my husband this afternoon, he seemed fine and in good spirits, apart from being desperate to come home. He was able to walk down to the café, which is a bit of a route march, his walking seems normal. However, they are keeping him in hospital for at least another couple of days as he is still being assessed, there appears to be some swelling on his brain, but the cause is not clear, they are still treating it as a TIA. Whilst we were there they moved him to another bay for less acute patients.

My husband was discharged this afternoon, they don't appear to be entirely sure what caused his problem.

He is back to his normal self again, so hopefully it was a one off.

This article made me so angry, how can some  parents be so stupid as to put fizzy drinks and milkshakes in babies feeding bottles? No wonder so many children have many of their teeth extracted at a young age.

Our grandchildren only drank milk and water when young. Our eldest grandson who is 17 still does, he doesn't enjoy tea of coffee. I have never seen any of the others imbibing fizzy drinks, come to think of it.
