I am awaiting the arrival of my new passport today. I presume it will still be the red one, and not the blue post Brexit colour, assuming we actually leave the EU. I am not intending to go abroad, or back to my home island, but it is so much easier to produce a passport when identification is required, like when I renew my driving licence in time for my 70th birthday in January.

I don't recall having to produce evidence of identity when my licence was changed on becoming 70. I vaguely recall that it was done online - as it is after every three years.

When I fly to Jersey - two or three times a year - I use my concessionary bus pass as identity.  Unfortunately it cannot be used on Jersey buses.

I haven't been back to my home island of Guernsey since 2013, but it was easier to display my passport than anything else, especially as the photo on my driving licence is like something out of a horror film.  :o

The word is more IF than when. I am my husband's carer, even if he doesn't recognise me as such.

Our Down's Syndrome son (34) is visiting us today. He is a cheeky so and so,  he keeps telling me I am VERY VERY OLD, something he has been telling me since he was 4 years old. ;D ;D ;D

This morning I went to the supermarket just after 7am. As it was still quite dark all the drivers had their lights on, it was only when I drove past them I realised there had been a cyclist coming towards me. I hadn't seen him before then as the tiny light on his bike was almost invisible because of the car lights. If he had been wearing a high viz jacket and of course a helmet, which he wasn't, he would have been easier to see. It is about time it was illegal for cyclists to be out on the road without wearing these necessary items of apparel.

How I agree with you, LR.

I go to the gym every morning at 6.30. There are not only cyclists, but joggers and dog walkers around at that time. Virtually no-one wears reflective vests and very few wear light coloured clothes, Cyclists tend to ride on pavements and then dart onto the road when they want to take a turning or a short cut. And some ride without any lights at all.

For my early morning walk I have a thick yellow high viz jacket for cold dark days and high viz armbands for warmer dark days.

I renewed my driving licence on-line this morning with the help on our eldest girl, one can do so 90 days before one's 70th birthday. We came across a website, which claimed to be the DVLA, but was clearly a fake.  :o We found the genuine one and did the business, I was then instructed to cut my old licence card in half and return it to the DVLA, which surprised me. I am not sure what will happen should I need to show it to the police before I get my new one.

Sorry to disappoint anyone who thought I'd gone for good - I'm back. I've been unavoidably offline since the weekend, after my craptop, on its last legs for a while, finally expired, but I'm now on a public computer in the library, and am shortly going to collect my new laptop from Argos. I had limited access to the interweb via computers in the canteen at work, but, bizarrely, this forum is banned: I got a message from Royal Mail saying access was barred because it fell under the category of "Traditional religion"! What has RM got against traditional religion? I suspect that it's a euphemism for nutty Islamist websites, and they ban all sites that have anything to do with any religion, so as not to be accused of Islamophobia.

Our water has been off since last night. The Welsh water company claimed to have fixed the burst water main some distance from our village, but now there appears to be another problem, which they are looking into. I have been down to the supermarket to get some large water bottles. It is horrible not being able to have a shower or even wash ones hands, it is good job I have plenty of anti-bac gel. :o

There has been quite a lot of talk about unicorns on another thread. Anyway when I was in the supermarket this morning I saw a fairly large  unicorn soft toy with which I bonded immediately. I couldn't leave it on the shelf so put it in my trolley. When I got home I tried to smuggle it inside before my husband caught sight of it, but too late, his eyes the ceiling. ;D It is now enhancing the top of my wardrobe.

I have sent a photo of it to our girls and my sisters, I await their reaction, no doubt the men in white coats will be here before the day is out. ;D

I've had a bit of very welcome news regarding the tap group. I've realised for a while that energy levels are going, so had made the decision to stop at the end of this term. One of the dance school/owners is going to continue the Thursday tap class in January. I've been running it for at least ten years and prior to that I used to do it whenever the teacher was unable to take it. However, I've had to slow down(shock, horror!) and the the energy required to *spring* on to other foot, to hop on the left one, and maintain the stamina required to dance a whole routine without a rest has gone forgood, I'm afraid!  For example, I know, and have shown the others, a whole routine learnt years ago (using Advanced Level steps) to 'TheSt Louis Blues' (Glenn Miller) but no more!

I could still manage to run the class if it wasn't for the worsening cataract which makes everything that much more difficult to see, although of course in tap dancing, we each have a space and all move in the same directions at the same time, so bumping into each other doesn't happen!

I shall of course join the class, but will no longer have the responsibility of being there and organising it.
