Glad you had a lovely birthday, LR!

Isn't it wonderful how small children walk! After swimming on a Monday afternoon, I wait for my taxi home in the reception area of the Recreation Centre and many children come in for various activities. They add little skips and jumps and various arm waving to their progress from the door to the gate through to the pool etc. A joy to see.

If you dislike baked potatoes, fair enough, but I doubt that being forced to eat them as a child is the reason. We all have our food likes and dislikes, and they seem to be arbitrary, with no obvious reason for them. I detest apricots, and am not keen on carrots or broccoli, as I've just said on the sprout thread. Sprouts are okish.

Apricots if you ever have reason to wire brush a piece of rusty iron the smell of the brushed iron reminds me of apricots they even taste a bit like rusty tin must taste like.

I think it's the favour of the jam to put atop a cake before icing, UG.(rusty tin flavour).

I try to make my wife put anything apricot away in the shed at the bottom of the garden.

Someone who detests apricots can't be all bad, even if they are a brexiter!

I like apricot jam on croissants and apricot crumble from tinned apricots; when I've bought fresh apricots they didn't taste nice, interesting what you've said on here, I thought I probably bought them out of season which is why the taste was odd, but maybe they are always like that. Dried ones are lovely chopped up and put on cereal& porridge.

Don't let it worry you too much Robbie there must be a treatment centre somewhere that'll have a cure for this dreadful affliction of yours!

Chopping them up must involve handling the blasted things, is there anywhere you can chop them up away from everybody else so that you don't spread any of the side affects or fumes of them effect anyone that has to live in the same house as your otherwise good self.

Nicola Sparsons is dead! Is this the end of 'Just a Minute'? One can't imagine it without him, but then, one couldn't have imagined ISIHAC without Humph, but it's still going, with Jack Dee in the chair.

Only if you use tiresome leading zeros. Until 30-odd years ago, when computers became common and started demanding leading zeros, we'd've written it "2.2.2020". I still do, except when an electronic form demands leading zeros.

Checking my diary to see what taxi bookings I need to make and thinking podiatry was the 13th,  I found to my horror that I'd missed the appointment which was 7th. I had not written it in because I had not checked the appointment card. It's not the end of the world, but I just really hate missing appointments.

Don't worry - there will be a proper one next year : 12.02.2021.

Nah - you are still using the leading zero in the month.

That's still got a leading zero, although if you express the year as the last two figures only, it becomes palindromic without a leading zero: 12.2.21.

So I have to put new batteries in hearing aids. I do it carefully because the teeny hinges are not very robust - unlike the old ones, I'm afraid - and what happens? The stupidly designed little hinged bit falls off. So now I'll have to go to the shop tomorrow and they'll have to send it away to get a new one and, I can assure all who are reading this, that is extremely annoying!!

Ah, well! You can probably hear the deep sigh which follows … ...

Our grandson, celebrated his 14th birthday yesterday by having a flying lesson, a present from his parents. He joined the Air cadets last year and has been anxious to see if being a pilot is something he would like to pursue as a career. His instructor was most impressed with the lad, saying he did extremely well in spite of the air turbulence. I am surprised that one can learn to fly at such a young age, but you can't learn to drive a car on the highway until you are 17.

Instead of a stop tap, we have a switch to shut off our water supply. It just looks like an ordinary light switch, put the bit you press is blue. So much easier than having to turn off a stop tap. Does any other poster have one of these devices?

Sounds like a very sensible idea.

About 15 years ago,  I was still a member of  a David Loyd Club and, when I could still get there by bus fairly easily, enjoyed using the facilities, particularly the 25-metre outside (roof over in winter)pool. Today my neighbour took me there just to see whether it would be possible to go and use it now. It is just the most gorgeous pool, but even if I joined for a short period just for fun, the cost of taxi there and back, the cost of even brief membership,  and the difficulties getting from the changing rooms to the pool are out of all proportion to the pleasure of using it! :) Ah, well!

If the cost of postage stamps had gone up in line with inflation since they were introduced, a first class stamp would cost over £2.
