Today (well, tomorrow morning to be absolutely precise) is the start of reuben's sixth week of life.   :)

My other granddaughter has knitted me a new cardigan which is exactly the right length, size and style that I was hoping for. My son brought it here for me yesterday.

And a change of one medication seems to have given me more energy, which is really nice. I am very lucky.

Had a reminder yesterday that tempus continues to fugit - my eldest grandchild received his provisional driving license in the post.

Eye check-up yesterday - the doctor, a young woman, gave me the definitive answer I have been asking for for a couple of years: even if I took the serious risk of having cataract surgery, it would not assist the slowly worsening peripheral vision, as it is the deterioration of the macula (where there's a central scar anyway) which is the reason. Why wasn't that explained sooner? *Ssigh* I have always said that I want to know exactly what the condition is. By knowing exactly, it is far, far easier to deal with. I may lose more and more, but at least I'll know the reason WHY!!

Sorry to hear that Susan. :(

My husband is blind to all intents and purposes in one eye since his massive brain haemorrhage in 2006, before that he had been diagnosed with mild macula degeneration. Last time he saw the optician he was diagnosed with cataracts, which probably wouldn't need treating for about 10 years, fingers crossed!

So I have to put new batteries in hearing aids. I do it carefully because the teeny hinges are not very robust - unlike the old ones, I'm afraid - and what happens? The stupidly designed little hinged bit falls off. So now I'll have to go to the shop tomorrow and they'll have to send it away to get a new one and, I can assure all who are reading this, that is extremely annoying!!

Ah, well! You can probably hear the deep sigh which follows … ...

Hi Susan

I have just got some new hearing aids which are rechargeable. The batteries are built-in and I just put them into a slot in the recharge device which uses a USB connection to connect to an electricity supply.

Do you mean that the whole hearing aid is rechargeable? Or is it just the batteries?

Yes. The hearing aid itself. There are no batteries - or rather, the battery is inside the hearing aid and is not accessible. The whole hearing aid is put into the recharging unit. I put the aids on charge last thing at night and they are fully charged the next morning.

My old aids would last for perhaps three or four weeks before requiring a battery change. I would guess that one charge (which actually takes about three hours) will last for three or four days.

Interesting - thank you. Phoned Scrivens, local place for hearing aids, and asked about them. A bit pricey!! If my needs involved a lot of hearing in different places, I might well think about it, but since I am here at home mostly, and, as at present, using headphones to hear what I'm doing, I think I'll pass on that for now.

Rishi Sunak is chancellor of the exchequer. One of my FB friends has just pointed out that his name is an anagram of "hi-risk anus".

I have two of the N H S free, (previously paid for), hearing aids I just call in at my local health centre and pick up fresh free batteries when I've only a couple left, they are small and working fine, the batteries last me about a week, they're working fine I can hear your posts very clearly.

I am in my local Wetherspoons, and there is a young woman opposite who is a dead ringer for Greta Thunberg. Can it be...?

Wiltshire Farm Foods ordered Thursday for delivery today between 10 and 12. Nothing - and no info why.  Lovely day too. Ah, well. No point in trying to go out for a walk round the block now because it is swimming later this afternoon.

If you ask nicely perhaps she'll give you a re run of the things her parents have told her to say.

Wow - you really have swallowed that right-wing propaganda, haven't you? Is this climate change denial or just being nasty about an effective young campaigner because... well, why?

A highly unpleasant comment. >:( Greta is an extremely intelligent girl, and all her comments are her own take on climate change.

I'm sure I didn't say whether I agree with her parents or not, as it happens I feel there must be something in this global warming and the evidence certainly is pointing in that direction but there?

I am a total liability!  I removed some flatbread from the baking tray, which I had been heating up for lunch. I was about to convey the tray to the sink for a wipe over when my dodgy arthritic fingers inside the oven glove somehow made the tray point upwards and connect with my right cheek. The resulting burn is about half an inch long,  FANTASTIC!!!!  :o  I already have a scar on that side of my face, many years ago an enthusiastic dog of ours clawed my face as I bent down to give it a food item. It is a very good job vanity about looks is not one of my many faults.
