This afternoon a van turned up at our next door neighbour's house, in huge letters it called itself, "WOOF WASH WAGON". The neighbours have taken on their teenage granddaughter and her very small yappy dog. Anyway the creature was carried into the van for a wash. BONKERS! Still it made us giggle.  ;D Our dogs, much larger of course, had the hose put over them if they needed it.

Mine used to go in the bath, enjoyed it too, then rinsed off with the shower. In summer, sometimes in a child's paddling pool. People do take their dogs to canine beauty parlours, I s'pose what you saw is a mobile one  :D.

Get a cat - they wash themselves, AND bury their shit, so you don't have to pick it up in a plastic bag, AND you don't have to take them for walks.

But, if you get into an argument with one, prepare to lose.

Are you complaining?   I would have thought that you would be pleased. After all, you don't buy books because you don't want trees to be cut down. Higher stamp prices must surely mean that fewer people will send messages using paper.    ::)

If the cost of a first class stamp had kept pace with inflation since the penny black was introduced, it would now cost several pounds.

In a long list of humorous and not so humorous monikers, Vlad's latest is a small work of genius.

This is incredible, a dog rescued from a sea of foam created by wild weather in Australia!

The Tech chap has been here this morning and organised some things on the computer. He has also put Zoom on it, and is going to get me a suitable camera so that I can see -i.e. peer at  as best I can! - the family on this monitor. So with a bit of luck I shall be able to see something of greatgrandson opening his Christmas presents!  He'll be 11 months old.

As if my poor husband hasn't got enough problems he now has a inguinal hernia to add to his list!  :o The doctor has told him that he mustn't do any heavy lifting in case it strangulates.

This morning the builder/handyman fixed my ballet bar in position, so now when I put my tap shoes on and practise on my tap board, I should be able to do it with better balance!

ETA justr returned from local hospital having had heart monitor fitted. Have to wear for 72 hours. You can just bet, though, that nothing unusual will happen during that time!

I have just opened the bedroom window to let out a red admiral butterfly! I don't remember ever doing that before at this time of year.

Watched the 'Call the Midwife' Christmas special last night - first time I've seen it for ages. As usual, I could do without the sentimental bits, especially la Redgrave's homespun-wisdom voice-overs at the beginning and end, but on the whole it was great fun. A circus came to Poplar, with a grizzled owner and ringmaster whom I eventually recognised as Peter Davison, whom I hadn't seen for many years. Back in the 70s and 80s, he was all over the TV, as the fifth (?) Doctor and Tristan Farnon, but largely disappeared from view for the last 30-odd years.
Also interested to note that they had the midwives masking up while delivering sprogs. That is historically accurate - we're up to 1965, and apparently that was the norm then, though they don't wear masks now (well, they probably have this year, but not before that). The thing is, in previous series, they haven't worn masks, despite it being anachronistic, because the director wanted them to be recognisable, so they've changed their mind about that. (I know this because of an article in Radio Times a few years ago, about anachronisms in the series, most of them accidental, like having them sit down to a meal including broccoli, which was almost unknown in the UK in the early 60s. They realised just in time, and digitally turned it into cauliflower, by turning the green to white.)

We watched it last night. It took me a while to recognise Peter Davison.

Just found out that the actor Alexander Siddig is a descendant of the Mahdi, and a nephew of Malcolm McDowell.

I have just had a Zoom conversation, organised by my (younger) son, with our friends in Adelaide. That was just lovely. I shall not ever be travelling to Australia again, and they too are restricted by the pandemic. I've known them since 1986 when their daughter was in my class during my exchange teaching year. In 1987 they came to UK and the whole family stayed with me for several months and then lived nearby for a couple of years before returning to Australia, repeating the exercise a few years later annd of course I have been to see them multiple times.  I now have a way of our being able to see each other (or peer sideways at in my case!!).

Yesterday, I was able to see on zoom my greatgrandson moving around, standing, playing - on the light-coloured carpet near the window in my sons house, so that was really nice.

Lovely - thank you! If only I could see it better, but I could see the movement of feet and legs and  of course hear it!Who was the girl? I don't think it was Bonnie Langford.

As I've always said, you can't tap dance for an hour without a smile on your face at the end of it!..
