And good voices remain good voices, however much older the singers get.

Well, sort of!

I had the pleasure of seeing Petula Clark sing when she was in her 70's and she was brilliant. No noticeable loss of range or power - and she sang for two hours.

However, other singers don't fare so well, and it is, I think, down to how they look after themselves. I'm not going to post it here, but there are videos of Liza Minnelli (who whether you like her or not, could belt out a tune and hold it very well in her prime) performing more recently, and well basically she shouldn't. The loss of her talent I am sure is down to many years of abuse - smoking, drugs, etc.

Other voices, more notably male singers (in my experience) take on an edge of frailty that makes their singing somehow more touching and affecting. Thinking the late Johnny Cash here, amongst others.

I have just been told elsewhere that The Human League's album is 40 years old today.

I refuse to believe this is possible unless a Tardis is involved.

I did mean Dare - meant to put it in but obviously didn't. Perhaps a sign that 40 years has actually elapsed.  :-[

Poppy, bought this morning. I've got some white peace poppies at home, so will add one of them later. (I'm in the pub atm.)

Just listen to it! It did take me a couple of minutes though!

By the way, I've bought a new microwave. Same as last one except that instead of having very simple controls, one of them has been made tricky. I'll have to get someone to mark it with Tippex really well.

The old one is just about usable but as soon as I can use the new one, the better.

The picture I put up was of a Christmas tree ornament that has Jesus, a dog (different breeds available) sitting on a crescent moon.

I sometimes bake bread - my usual practise is to use a bread-making machine to do the initial mixing then take out the dough so that before baking it can spend an hour or so rising in the mould in which it be baked. Today, with the idea of making it easier to extract the proved dough from the machine's mixing bowl, I lined the bowl with greaseproof paper.

Imagine my surprise when I found that the yeast had caused the paper to be absorbed totally into the dough.

That reminds me of somebody I worked with who put a packet of crisps in the oven to warm them up and they all came out plastic coated.
