Alan comes across as a naive but generally pleasant chap. None of what  he posts has the uniqueness if Nick. I remember his stem cells in their 'Sunday best' tadpole outfit

Peter Popoff must be one of the most courageous people on the plant then, according to your definition.  ::)

Peter Popoff was not a Christian.  Christians in general should not tell lies because it is a sin to do so.

Lets just go back to your original statement which you seem to have inadvertently missed from your reply to me,

The sceptics on this forum seem happy to write off Ele Mumford's testimony as a deliberate lie.  It takes a lot of courage to stand up and give a witness in front of 2000 people.  It would take an unbelievable amout of courage to tell them a deliberate lie.

Peter Popoff, regularly, stood in front of thousands of people and told deliberate lies.

That makes him have, according to your own definition - 'an unbelievable amount of courage'.
Popoff also performed healing in the name of Jesus. you can see them for yourself.

In fact if you watch the videos, until he was caught cheating and lying, those same people would probably have given testimony of his miracle cures in Jesus name.
Until he was caught, most of the people attending his gatherings would have claimed that he was a Christian would they not?

Are you prepared to say that if you saw videos of someone performing or witnessing miracle cures in front of thousands, from people claiming them in Jesus name, that you would accept them as true?
 - Without doubt as you seem to have done in Ele Mumford's case?

I wonder if Sparky has been into rehab and has come back as Alan B; no it can't be, can it?

Oh, look. An ad hominem.
No, it isn't. (a) it isn't a the ad hom fallacy as it isn't attacking any argument and (b) it is even an attack unless you stars that being compared to Nick is an attack (which would then mean you wee making an ad hom on Nick by your logic) or that going into rehab is an attack, which I suggest is a bit unpleasant of you.
Time to check that text autocorrect again, NS.

I never had the faintest idea what Nick was on about, but it was beautiful to read his posts.

Indeed. At least his posts had something to read unlike the blank posts of ippy and Mr. Nearly.

Sass says we need to read it in a manner seeking God. I did that but still lost my faith.

You lost your faith because you were one of those who the troubles of this life closed in on you so easier to give up.

I think you need to re-think what I have been saying...

No I don't, Sass. I was in a good place when I lost my faith. Later when I really was in the shit you'd have thought he'd have come back though, wouldn't you?

What you need to re-think the part where you THINK you know what I am saying about reading the bible.

As for being in a good place when you lost your faith. How could you lose your faith in a good place?

As for being in a bad place then I have the done all that...
But TRUTH is what must be sought and looking at Job which none have been put through as he was... then Job knew the truth about God does not change because of our circumstances...

God did not send all those bad things... but Job knew he will see all his children again.
He knows that the evil in this world is something which is short lived. That God is good and eventually the evils of this world, death, mourning, pain and sickness will eventually be gone....

Reading the bible is about seeking truth and understanding it... Our circumstances SHOULD never determine out decisions regarding God and his being.

BA, I cried out, I begged on my knees, quite literally.
Begged on your knees for what?
It is clear that if you obey Christ he and the father will reveal themselves to you... In a good place so why didn't you believe and ask him to reveal himself by obeying him?

If you did then tell us what you did and what happened.
I would genuinely be interested to know.

No matter what I have gone through this I KNOW..

God is the same and no matter how dark he loves us.
I never had to ask my parents if they loved me... I know they did.
Sometimes it is seeing how much they love us we know how much more God loves us.

The things I see teach me to trust the creator for the things I do not see...

Nope, the ad hominem fallacy is where you use something irrelevant about someone to attack the arguments. Ippy isn't doing that, he just makes a flip comment. It's exactly equivalent to when you put Yawn or zzzzzz after one of Floo's posts.

Nope. Here is the OED definition, "(Of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining:"

You are getting confused, the point about the fallacy is you use the personal attack to dismiss the arguments i.e. you are ginger, you arguments are therefore pish. Lazy boring personal attacks are not part of the fallacy

That's a good one! ;D Christians who claim as a fact the deity definitely exists are lying!
Do know what "lie" means, Floo?

Telling an untruth! However having looked up the definition of 'lie' on Wikipedia, I stand corrected as a person is only telling a lie if they know they are lying!
Good girl! (Actually "... if they know they are telling an untruth.")

It is very sad if they are unaware they are telling porkies! :(

So do you think that Shaker's "lazy, boring personal attack" on Alan Burns was not to try to discredit him and his arguments? I took that to be the aim. Maybe I was wrong.

What time scale does Scripture give to him to reveal himself to Rhiannon? Are you quoting from Scripture?

Why are we talking about Shaker? You were making a point about ippy, surely?

Anyway let me try and help. A poster replies to another that they are a dicktellytubby. It is a simple insult, it does not address the argument at all.
Alternatively if someone says your argument is as stupid as one of Alien's - it is an attack but not in itself irrelevant.

If someone says you suck the buses of every council, therefore  your argument  can be dismissed, that is an ad hom.

I agree. I was wrong. I thought ippy's "lazy, boring personal attack" on Alan Burns was in response to AB's arguments here. Looking back at the thread, it is clear I was wrong.

Apologies.

I had meant that there were a lot of similarities between Alan B and NM, but I must add that any time I write anything to or about other posters on the forum, it's the ideas I'm having a go at not so much the person.
