Searching for GOD...
« on: May 25, 2015, 12:36:28 PM »
I was reading some of the threads and it is abundantly clear that people do not seek the truth regarding God but simply reasons to keep from believing in him.

In doing so they ignore the very warnings and signs of the times.
If people read the bible in a manner that sought to know God...how many would be so ignorant of those signs?
We know we have to work together to abolish war and terrorism to create a compassionate  world in which Justice and peace prevail. Love ;D   Einstein

What signs?
Is there a list somewhere?

WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And it's one, two, three,
What are we fighting for ?
Don't ask me, I don't give a darn*,
Next stop is Vietnam;
And it's five, six, seven,
Open up the pearly gates,
Well there ain't no time to wonder why,
Whoopee! we're all gonna die.

I did, but lost my faith by the time I was 19, when the doubts became too overwhelming. I still read the Bible, but I am not sure what is meant by 'the required manner'?

Sass says we need to read it in a manner seeking God. I did that but still lost my faith.

I tried seeking the deity as a kid of eleven when I was desperately in need of someone to be there for me. I had a problem I certainly couldn't share with my parents, or anyone else. I never had any sense of its presence!

Same happened to me, Floo, but much older. But the moment I knew God wasn't there was at a peaceful time just prior to that. Came completely out of the blue and no amount of Bible reading or prayer could get it back.

I doubt very many children do.  They are not knowledgeable enough, or mature enough, to appreciate what is in question.

How "knowledgeable" do you have to be? Knowledge of what?

They have to understand the concepts involved, and in my experience, children at that age have little idea what religion and belief, or unbelief, mean.  They still think in terms of God as a white-haired man, sitting on a cloud.  They simply do not understand.

Understand what though? You're talking about a different concept/definition of God but that's only one that you happen to find credible.

The average Year 6, has no effective concept of God upon which to make any decisions.

This assumes that there's such a thing as an effective concept of God, though.

:D  That's a whole new discussion. Maybe you could start a thread:  but don't expect any input from Year 6's

I had a sense of presence that I called God from a very early age. Certainly well before yr 6.

What makes sense to me now is to understand this presence running through everything. My kids don't believe in God but they hug trees.
