Absolutely. It's probably amongst the very best, or even the best, one-stop crash course in critical thinking there is.
Yes, Yes, yes Nearly Sane and Shakes......a fine attempt to reclaim Sagan for Antitheist extremism but what Sagan is widely known for is Cosmos.

Peter Popoff must be one of the most courageous people on the plant then, according to your definition.  ::)

Peter Popoff was not a Christian.  Christians in general should not tell lies because it is a sin to do so.

I wasn't aware anybody had said differently?

What's "anti-theist extremism" when it's at home Vlad? People who say disobliging things about religion on a sparsely populated internet forum, I expect - I know how low some of you lot set the bar for extremism when it comes to people who don't like religion. Muslim extremists have to wear those X-shaped belts of bullets across them and carry grenade launchers and decapitate live people with big knives - atheists just have to write books and give talks  ::)

And? I did not make a claim about Sagan being antitheist, neither did Shaker. That people may not have read the Demon haunted World makes no difference  to the fact that Sagan wrote it.

Can you also stop with the meaningless pish about antitheism. I am not antitheist. Please stop lying.

Can I just point out that it's conditional on Vlad's being here - it's a contractual obligation - that Vlad has to add "anti-theist" and "philosophical materialism" to no less than 80% of his posts for absolutely no reason whatever.

So in fact I was perfectly correct when I said People who say disobliging things about religion on a sparsely populated internet forum, I expect, then.

That's a good one! ;D Christians who claim as a fact the deity definitely exists are lying!

Why is it that you can't understand that lying needs to have the knowledge that what you are saying is wrong?

If you call yourself a Christian you are one! Christianity encompasses the benign/the sublime/the evil and the ridiculous, imo!

He's absolutely right, Floo. Lying is deliberate deceit, not just being mistaken. Lying is to tell a conscious falsehood - to say something that you know to be untrue by which you're trying to mislead your audience.

Being genuinely mistaken (and being quite sincere in your belief) and lying aren't the same thing.

In other words lying isn't the word you're after for what you're trying to put across.

Do know what "lie" means, Floo?
Apparently 99.9975% atheist because I believe in one out of 4000 believed in (an atheist on Facebook). Yes, check the maths as well.

Telling an untruth! However having looked up the definition of 'lie' on Wikipedia, I stand corrected as a person is only telling a lie if they know they are lying!

No, it isn't. (a) it isn't a the ad hom fallacy as it isn't attacking any argument and (b) it is even an attack unless you state that being compared to Nick is an attack (which would then mean you wee making an ad hom on Nick by your logic) or that going into rehab is an attack, which I suggest is a bit unpleasant of you.
