You will be able to say why, won't you. (And, being Vlad, with the emphasis entirely on the word "won't").
Yes, as Sagan has said God occupies a philosophical role as a possibility of why there is anything and why it is maintained. Whereas King Kong is, like yourself, a great hairy unbelievable thing.

Is that what Sagan said?

Where and when did he say this?

(As for me: hairy - fairly; unbelievable - frequently; great - always).
Pain, or damage, don't end the world. Or despair, or fucking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man, and give some back. - Al Swearengen, Deadwood.

Taken fro the Sagan Wikipedia entry.

Sagan commented in 1981

An atheist is someone who is certain that God does not exist, someone who has compelling evidence against the existence of God. I know of no such compelling evidence. Because God can be relegated to remote times and places and to ultimate causes, we would have to know a great deal more about the universe than we do now to be sure that no such God exists.

Sagan on King Kong?........Not sure.

I know beyond any doubt that God loves each one of us...

No, Alan, you don't know it at all ... you have just allowed yourself to be convinced of it. It's all moonshine!

"God" doesn't exist outside fiction, any more than King Kong does.
If you ever allow Him to Len, God will convince you otherwise, but you have to let Him in first.

You can't patronise people into faith.
I'm interested in knowing why you can't quite hack a God who would allow resistance to himself.

Because I can't believe in a God who 'resists' my pleading to him when dealing with the aftershock from thinking my younger daughter was dying.

That shocking statement will shut Vladster up for a little while, but not for very long - he has his god to defend against all comers, after all.

And so another Antitheist sinks unattractively over the Arsehole event Horizon trying to maintain that God has the same fictional status as King Kong............Take a chill pill.

I believe the source is a book by Tom Head: Conversations with Carl Sagan University of Mississippi Press although there are plenty of quotes and sources which have Sagan not only denying personal certainty that there was no God but discounting himself as an atheist.

Suck it up.

No ... I've seen fictional depictions of King Kong. No fictional depictions of that other fictional character.

So who cares what Sagan described himself as? You seem to, very much: I don't.

I think the point is Shaker that unlike you you wouldn't find Sagan trying to defend the equation of God and King Kong.....

Not making capital of Rhi's horrible difficulty, Vlad old fruit; helping you in your one-man daily mission to make yourself look like a humungous twat.

So much the worse for dead old Carl. (Very much - in public anyway - the accommodationst a la C. Darwin of Down, Kent - sweetness and conciliatory light in public for political reasons, significantly harder-edged in private  ;) ).

This is ridiculous, Shaker.....next you'll claim that God, being a giant guy in a robe and white beard evolved from a giant ape called King Kong.

Our Lord and Saviour, who gave up his bananas for our sins. Or something.
