This mania, as you call it, is faith - God's greatest gift.
Faith in God is a gift from the God you first have to believe in in order to believe that there's a God who can dispense faith which is a belief in God?

I see.

The obvious question Alan how do you know, how can you possibly know, the answer is there is no way you can know this so all of your post is preposterous nonsense, as are almost every one of your posts, as crackers as Twit and Sass's post are.

Trouble is in your case I can't see you managing to get over this mania you appear to be suffering from.

This mania, as you call it, is faith - God's greatest gift.

The odd thing is, that you make Christianity seem so disreputable.   For you, there seem to be no contradictions that cannot be ironed out with a phrase, oh well, that's faith, or oh well, that's when grace will help you.   So God will answer those who seek - except when he doesn't.   It is kind of funny, but I suppose, sordid really.  And I know that you will smooth this out as well.  It's bullet proof, but you probably see that as a virtue.

So when you see Seek and you will find you don't actually mean it.
Those were God's words as spoken by Jesus, and He does mean it.
God will answer the call of those who genuinely seek Him and want Him to come into their lives.

Alan you still haven't told us how you know these things, does this thing you call god tell you in an email for instance?.

This life has a purpose, which was revealed to us in the Gospels.  Jesus lived, suffered and died that we might be saved from sin and death by accepting Him as our saviour.
... the obvious conclusion of which, taken on its face, is that not only atheists and agnostics but Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, pagans - in fact anybody who holds any beliefs other than Christian ones - have no purpose in life.

Well done Alan. Very occasionally, just for a moment or two, I temporraily forget why I hold theism generally and Christianity especially in such utter contempt and why I have such withering scorn and disdain for it; thank you for reminding me.
Nobody can predict who is saved.  A devout Muslim who sincerely believes they have found God may well be saved, but it would be through the power of Jesus who opened up the door to heaven for mankind.  So accepting Jesus as your saviour is still the best option.

Perhaps you have not yet recognised God's answer to your prayers, which often come through other people.

Perhaps you have not yet recognised God's answer to your prayers, which often come through other people.
Can you suggest a methodology by which you can tell the difference between:

(1) The existence of God and that God working through other people

and

(2) No God and people just doing people stuff.

Because without that, it's worthless, Al. Sorry and all that, but as a hypothesis it's junk.

A good god would save everybody though.  Your thinking is confused and contradictory.

I think people plenty of people see a change in the conduct and attitude of people who convert or whose lives are ''close'' to God. Of course science or the academic approach isn't looking for these things and yet the very field in which you expect evidence to appear is the very field that isn't bothered with those observations.

''I want to see the whole world in scientific terms'' you say.....more fool you.

I like my beliefs about the world to align with reality and to have some sort of evidential grounding.

The alternative is ... well, we can see what the alternative is.

Disregarding avenues of investigation is not evidential grounding or reality. Science will only give you models.
Eventually there are reasons to break away from what we were told as youngsters. It's called personal experience.

There are I grant people who will see the evidence of changed lives but prefer the psychological and emotional crutch of a non existent Secular Humanist sentiment.

Well, if they suddenly start going to church AND have a better attitude towards others, of course people would notice ... and that is why I say they are best left with the belief.

There is a whole branch of scientific study devoted to social behaviour.
