You certainly don't need to be religious to bring your children up properly!

But if you ARE religious it makes the job much more difficult!

A ridiculous comment! How is it more difficult?  There are those who would say it is easier, because you have  very well-defined set of values.

It would be vastly preferable to have these "well-defined values" defined by help and harm to other sentient creatures, not adherence to the daft, arbitrary rules of alleged supernatural figures without a scrap of evidence to support their existence.

I'm referring to such things as the love and forgiveness and care for others, that Jesus taught.  You clearly, from your comment, do not subscribe to such values  -  I realise that from the usual tenor of your posts.

It's hardly Shakers fault if you chose to take the narrow religious POV.

Yet again another religionist that thinks good ethics and morals are the exclusive preserve of religious believers.

As a matter of fact I do - very much so. What you're referring to is the fact that I attack the not only entirely redundant but ridiculous idea that these are good things because a long-dead Jewish handyman from the ancient world featuring in sketchy documents says so.

And there, in a nutshell, is an admiral example of the fact that you are an inappropriate person to influence the young  -  biased and and offensive about anything you don't agree with.

All people are biased against the things they disagree with Bashers - that's pretty much a defining hallmark of the concept.

Like you and atheists/atheism/anybody who dares to challenge and criticise Christianity, for example.

But I don't, and haven't, attempted to influence the thinking of others, be it for or against religion, or anything else, as you cannot help yourself doing.

I agree that if you are extreme in your beliefs it is likely to make it more difficult as the kids could rebel BIG TIME!

I certainly felt like going off the rails from time to time to spite my religious parents, but fortunately I didn't. Marrying young was probably my saviour, as I soon had a baby to care for and I had to grow up fast.

That's just as well, given that you haven't a snowball's chance of that  ;)

I'd be delighted to know how you think that I'm influencing the thinking of others, though - it's always nice to be told how important, significant and influential one is.

Your narrow-minded and manipulative attitude to the young, makes you no kind of advert for standards of behaviour.

I note you didn't really have an answer to my post, demonstrated by your reply above, where you profess to know how I behave toward youngsters, you have no idea about about any idea I may or may not have towards youngsters, but somehow you think you have.

O K B A, tell me exactly what is my, in your words, "narrow-minded and manipulative attitude to the young"?

In principle, I guess - enjoy, whoever you are, and remember: never stop asking questions and never stop thinking for yourself  :)

Of course, since Bash can also have his posts read by anyone then he is being hypocritical to complain about you. And then there are all the children he has 'influenced' by being a teacher.

Because you dismiss all religion with derision, and would deny your, and other children ,the right to learn about it with an open mind.  You know that is your position, so don't be so hypocritical!

Very true!

How do you know it's "true?"  I taught strictly by the constraints of the National Curriculum, and did not attempt to influence any child to my own beliefs and inclinations; and anybody who suggests otherwise better have just cause, because it's libelous to suggest otherwise.

I was agreeing with NS's identification of hypocrisy insofar as anyone can come here and read your posts just as much as mine.
