BA,

Quote
Really?  Somebody forgot to tell the massive crowds who turned out to greet the Pope, including one crowd of hundreds of thousands approaching, a million!  Talk about wishful thinking!  By the way, in the Philippines there was a crowd of near to 6 miillion!!  I bet you enjoyed seeing that on the news, though you will, of course, deny you saw it!

Ooh, an argumentum ad populum. We haven't had one of those for a while - sounds like we me be in for another game of logical fallacy top trumps!

How many people then did not turn up in each of these places?

That is just about the lamest detractionI have ever heard from you!  You are certainly losing your touch:  could be your age.   :)

You are a fucking idiot!

When are you leaving?

That breaks the forum rules.  Only yesterday Rhiannon said the mods do not tolerate people calling others that.   Well, mods, does he get away with it?

I must say, it's great to see how standards have risen, since BA broadcast his heartfelt appeal for more politeness and fewer personal attacks.   You can just sense a general rise in civility, and a reduction in comments about something personal, like somebody's age.

Which bit do you object to - the "effing" or the "idiot"?

As you seem relaxed about using the latter to describe other posters, should I assume that this is you being prim about strong language again?

Another weak attempt to have a go at me, even from the sanctimonious likes of wigginhall. I guess you didn't notice the smiley;  or maybe you simply have no idea what even the mildest humour is!

You clearly have not read my thread:  I was complaining about people abusing the beliefs of others.  Do try and keep up.

I look forward to your apology for mis-representing my views.

Even if this were true (and of course, no substantiation is offered - where was this supposed to have happened?), as bluey has pointed out, how many didn't turn up? What proportion of the population do these hundreds of thousands represent? A turnout of a million in a nation of a million would be impressive; in a nation of three hundred million, not very.

There's nothing prim about eschewing foul language. It belongs in the gutter, and with those who have little or no standards.  There is also, a whiff of hypocrisy:  those like you who swear on here most probably pretend to be icons of good behaviour in "real life."

I like to think that I behave reasonably well in "real life', yes. Whether my definition of "good behaviour" and yours are the same is a different matter of course, but for my part treating people as I would wish to be treated, answering questions I'm asked rather than using diversionary tactics, not throwing out accusations and never backing them up with evidence etc are much better indicators of it than using the odd vulgarity.

So I was correct: you are a hypocrite.

Non sequitur - nothing in my post suggested that I was being hypocritical.

A hypocrite would be, say, someone who started a thread on treating other posters badly and proceeded to populate it with evasions, unsubstantiated allegations, insult etc.

There are several online dictionaries that could explain this to you.
