How convenient.  I guess that licenses you to believe anything you want in the end,

Show us a mind.
You thought you would hand wave your way out of it by demanding I show you a soul.

That's not fair.

We're playing 'Ill show you mine if you show me yours', but you claim exemption from the rules of the game.

Look ....either you can show us a mind....or you can't.
I have admitted to not being able to show you a soul.
Now, either show us a mind or admit that you can't.

Mind or Soul... Have any of you seen your heart? Have you seen you lungs and your stomach?
You believe they are there because of their function.. Just as the stomach because of food.
The soul isn't seen as the other organs is it? The mind relates to the brain. The soul to the person.
Mind and Soul both reflecting on the brain who is the person for the function of the brain is the same in everyone but the person/Soul is not the same in everyone.

7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

A living soul is the person whom they are when the body has life.
So the living soul is the person who came into being when they take their first breath,
There is the soul.

Of course that's fine Sassy if you believe in God and that what it says in the Bible is fact but if you don't have those beliefs then there is no reason to think that what makes a person what they is anything other than the mind which is a result of brain activity.

I can't show you an electron spinning, I can't show you a black hole.  Just because we cannot observe directly does not mean it does not exist.  The concept of mind  is derived from broader observational principles just as are electrons and black holes.  The concept of soul has no such provenance, no such rigour.

If you mean Brain and the arithmetic calculations I might agree with you. But the self conscious mind compared with electrons and black holes? Looks like category error on your part.

We can detect brain activity these days and map which parts of the brain are active so not sure what you mean there.

It is very simple - aside from machines to measure brain activity, that you are able to read any post here indicates brain activities, since more than one process is 'running' as you do so. A dead person has no brain activity going on and, therefore, cannot read posts in the Forum.

Next time you hear sound, feel hungry, dream, experience pain, remember something from your childhood  etc etc etc - your brain is active: it is even active in ways you are normally unaware of, such as controlling your respiration (you don't have to remember to keep breathing).

With modern technology it isn't difficult to detect.

In fact it's really easy to detect brain activity, so you've got that wrong Sass.

A terribly sad story.

Let me read up again on that god of the Bible who loves the little children.

Maybe someone should ask him why he allowed this guy's free will to override that of the baby.

Suffer the little children?

Right enough, God.

We do have much in common with animals because we share the same biological machinery.  The difference is that humans have a spiritual soul which interacts with the biological machine.  If you can demonstrate any animal having the ability to believe or disbelieve in God, I will concede that they too have a soul.

Does this mean that we aren't alive until we start to breathe?

I do not think this is conclusive evidence of their ability to believe in God's existence.

It's as conclusive as your evidence for a soul!
