You really don't get it, do you? A universe that just has facts isn't cosy at all - in fact many find the notion of such a life to be without meaning. Hence so many need to consolation of faith in order to feel safe and looked after, and that death isn't the end. Actually in a fact-based universe it is up to the individual to bring meaning to the party and to reconcile to loss and suffering and not being able to find a parking space. It's personal responsibility rather than expecting someone (or something) else to pick up the pieces for you and to give your life purpose for you.
I think you don't get it. I'm against the cosy world of just facts even though the accumulation of general knowledge is an ecstatic experience since you stop thinking about yourself.
I would challenge Ippy and Hillside to a quiz anytime, in other words what facts do they have that I don't or couldn't have?
Bringing meaning to the party? Now this is a platitude I often hear from atheists but it is never discussed in terms of it's process or achievement. I would start a thread but atheists around here seem to prefer the inquisitorial position and rarely answer questions which seek justification of their urban myths and platitudes.
