As I have said boringly often, I don't think the gods worshipped by humans are anymore than their own creations, however, there is always the very remote possibility that I could be wrong.

Yes I know, but that does not answer the question which was about belief.

Your only logical answer is to say you do not believe in a god (at the moment)

LR, you are being asked if you currently have a belief in God or gods. If that answer is no then you are an atheist, regardless of whether you could be wrong and don't know.

Knowledge is a subset of belief so if you do not know you must not believe.

Your logic and your set theory fails you. If knowledge is a subset of belief, then things can exist that are beliefs but not knowledge.

Replace knowledge with "woman" and belief with "people" and your statement becomes

"women are a subset of people so if you are not a woman you must not be a person."

Knowledge is just something you really really really believe.

You cannot have knowledge of something you do not believe.

You can believe things, but not to a point of knowledge.

Is all I am trying to say.

I disagree. Some people really really really believe that the World is flat. That's not knowledge.

You cannot have knowledge of something you do not believe.

Whilst I am not sure that that is true, it's actually not something I was arguing against in my previous post.

But that is the opposite of what you said before.

So is that article your belief or do you know it to be true?

I do not know anything to be absolutely true.

But apparently an agnostic atheist does not think God is not their at all because the existence of God is not finally dismissed.

The agnostic atheist is of course taking a punt and, thence having a horse in the race is prone to biases just like everybody else.

Of course some only admit their evasive behaviour further on vis, St Augustine.

In his case he could not let God in because he wanted the independent life. Augustine on reflection categorises his career flitting arounddifferent philosophies and indeed religions as evasion of God.

If Hillside thinks there is not a God at all then isnt that hard atheism?

WTF has St Augustine got to do with agnostic atheism? Since for a lot of his life he was a Manichee, he certainly wasn't an atheist or agnostic (the term didn't exist anyway). He just swapped one god for another. He may have rationalised his final conversion in the way you've described it, but the moment of his conversion seems to have had more to do with reading momentous purport into a chance occurrence. Rather as one might pick a horse in the Grand National because you happened to be eating a certain type of breakfast cereal that morning.

Like NearlySane, I'd call myself an ignostic atheist.

Wow. Just wow. I can't tell you how pleased I am to hear that. You do realise I hope that it was all that crossword solving that did the trick?   ;)

I'm currently trying to be off booze on week days, but I think I might just raise a glass to you later on. Splendid news.

Wonderful news Susan.

Susan's recovery is due to good medical attention, not god.

Just out of interest, have you also convinced yourself that your praying had something to do with Susan's recovery?
