Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know least about?

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know most about?

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew more about?

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew nothing about?

Which religion, extant in the U K , do you wish was not so, and why?

Questions open to theists, atheists and anti-theists.

Why do you want to know? It's not as though it's of any importance.

No information is unimportant.

It is required so that I might, with it presented in a tabled form, just possibly understand better some of the posts on this forum.

You obviously cannot see anything; It is not MY views that are being requested here, I know, surprise, surprise, what my views on my religion are and what my views on other religions are.

I am interested in finding out the views of others.

So answer the questions in the light of your disbelief, please.

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know least about?

There must be a number of religions here about which I know nothing at all, not even that they exist.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know most about?
Anglican Christianity.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew more about?
All of them.  Knowing things is fab.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew nothing about?
None of them.  I would never wish for ignorance.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K , do you wish was not so, and why?

All of them.  I think they do more harm than good.

Jeremy,

Can you pls tell me the harm caused by a) Buddhism b) Taoism and c) Paganism, and why our country would be better off without them.

Anyways...

1 Probably Jainism, although Christadelphianism was new to me a while back, so there's probably others.

2 Christianity, in the sense that I haven't engaged much with the aspects of Paganism that don't interest me - paganism being an umbrella term rather than a religion.

3. Not really 'know about' - I'd like to explore Taoism in more depth

4 none. Ignorance is unhelpful.

5 Radical Islam. Obvious as to why.

All religions encourage people to believe things that probably aren't true in the face of the evidence.  Anything that discourages thinking for yourself is ultimately bad for you.

Given that most Buddhists are non-theist, what stops them from being able to think for themselves? Not all Buddhist believe in reincarnation. Do you think Buddhist practices around meditation, mindfulness and suffering are unhelpful?

And what creed stops pagans being able to think for themselves? What beliefs? All type of pagan belief, or only some?

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know least about?

Same answer as Jeremy - some of the really small minority religions are so small that there are perhaps some that I've never even heard of. Off the top of my head, the ones that I don't know too much about are Zoroastrianism and Rastafari.

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know most about?

Probably Christianity. Of the main religions I try to learn something about all of them, which is particularly easy to do not just through books but because of living in a place such as Leicester (which incidentally, Rhi, has the largest Jain temple outside of India. And very lovely it is too, well worth a visit) because it's such a melting-pot of religions and cultures.

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew more about?

All of them. Religion is a fascinating phenomenon.

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew nothing about?

None springs to mind. As Jeremy said deliberately wanting to know nothing about something (as opposed to being merely uninterested in it) is a worrisome phenomenon.

Which religion, extant in the U K , do you wish was not so, and why?

Like Rhi, radical Islamism, although to that I would add any formalised, organised, institutional form of religion. Private, personal belief is one thing; but if enough private believers club together, at some point they achieve a critical mass where they think that they're entitled to start demanding extra rights and special privileges, including the most special privilege of all - telling others (of a different religion or of no religion at all) what they can and can't watch or read, who they can and can't marry and so forth, generally how to live. We can do without that sort of carry on as of yesterday.

What you regard as "obsession" is what other people usually call "interest."

Being interested in a subject doesn't entail agreement with that subject, otherwise Professor Sir Ian Kershaw (to name but one of many) would be a very worrying individual.

"Interest" in something you don't believe, but, it seems, spend a considerable time reading about, and spend huge amounts of time rubbishing.

Yet again you're conflating belief in with belief that (easy to do - it's one of the failings of the English language). Religion definitely does exist; it's a massive human phenomenon and is interesting to study.

Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know least about?

There may be some I'm unaware of, but of those I at least recognise I suppose the cult-like ones like JW's and Mormons

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you know most about?

Probably Christianity, simply because it is impossible to avoid. I know some aspects of the details, as much from here as anywhere, but aside from occasional unavoidable exposure to prayers/hymns at weddings/funerals I've not ever participated in religious activity (I wasn't even christened).

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew more about?

None specifically, but I'm happy enough to learn things whenever the opportunity arises. For example, I've learned a bit about paganism from this forum that otherwise I probably wouldn't have.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K, do you wish you knew nothing about?

None, I don't think I'd ever want to avoid new knowledge.

Quote
Which religion, extant in the U K , do you wish was not so, and why?

The extreme elements, such as those associated with terrorism, and also the silly elements in Christianity that try to present their faith views as being knowledge, and especially those that want to peddle their nonsense to our children within the eduction system: these types seem to assume that since they have caught something nasty that the rest of us should be exposed to it by default.

So I would prefer religion to be private/family matter that has no undue default influence on society at large or special privileges.
